Edges closer to 360 sales
Just as the Wii U is about to take its baby-steps out in to the big, wide World, Sony is celebrating shipping 70 million PS3's to retail.
Microsoft said earlier in the year that the same number of XBox 360's were in customers' homes, so the rivals go in to the critical Christmas period roughly neck and neck; although there's an important distinction between the figures. Microsoft's reflects the number of consoles sold through at retail, whereas the PS3 numbers reflect those put in to retail channels and not necessarily in to the hands of customers. Microsoft were brought to task, early in the 360's life, for stuffing the channels to bolster results.
Sony also reported that 15 million Move controllers had also been sent to retail outlets, worldwide since its launch.
