I am getting a 6.1 system but i use my PS2 as a dvd player will it be able to suply the 6.1 sound?

it supports dolby digital (5.1) and DTS with movies. but as there are serveral incarnations of each im really not sure. i would have thought not seeing that the PS2 is getting on a bit now.

When playing DVD's the PS2 should output whatever you tell it to. My ancient NAD T550 was able to output DTS-ES from the digital outs, it just couldn't decode it.

You might also find out the sonic limitations of using a Playstation to watch films on as a by product.

My PS2 quite happily streams 6.1 sound out via the optical digital output. But, as Ian J says, there are inherent sonic limitations in using it as a DVD player.

It sounds truly awful in comparison to even a budget DVD player like my Pioneer 565A.

Which brings me nicely onto the Limit DVD players which are on special offer in the Power Buy forum here :D
