Hi I have a ps2 and I'm getting a dvd remote for it, I wondered if this as good as a DVD player or does it lack something, I know DVD players start at around £30 but is it really worth buying one if I have a ps2?

    Thanks
    Keith

The PS2, for want of a stronger word, pish as a DVD player. But then again so are £30 DVD players so don't get one of them either. Toshiba do a very well regarded player for about £80 from Richer Sounds, check the DVD player forum for what model it is as i can't recall off hand.

Stay away from the PS2 - it’s a very poor excuse for a dvd player. The Toshiba that Steve mentioned would be a much better bet.

Yep the PS2 DVD playback is a token feature. Even a normal quality dedicated DVD player beats it easily.

Yeah the PS2 DVD player isn't worth bothering with. The X-Box one is OK though. Personally i'd say go for the Pioneer DV575 for £99. That's a superb DVD player for the price with prog scan output and div x compatability!

What about PS2 on component? It gives the option. Does it do progressive scan?

So far its not that great since it dont work on the RGB scart. The new slimline has had the bugs sorted at least.

Nope there's no prog scan from the PS2 DVD output as far as i'm aware. The X-box gives 480p via XBMC which is great and I actually use that as my PJ's DVD player.

Infact i've just tested out the PS2 now (as i've got it connected to my PJ via component) and it kicks out 480i where as the X-Box does 480p. I tested the same dvd scene on both and the X-Box was considerably better as you'd expect.

Yep mine does - only ever used it once between dvd players and it was an awful experience! :(
