Hi - quick question, and please be gentle as I have no idea about these things.

A couple of months ago I bought an Audi A4 SE Technik (13 plate) and am really pleased with it. After getting use to the Audi MMI, I am now seeing what more I can do. I want to play music - specifically from my Spotify Premium app on my Iphone 5S - via the Audi interface.

    How do I do this?

A friend at Audi has said that I need a cable (AMI) to connect the phone to the car, but - because I have an IPhone 5S - I need an adapter for this cable from Apple.

    Any help appreciated....please!

Does the Audi have a USB port?

I've also got a B8 A4 but unfortunately I only ever connect my 5s via Bluetooth and only for calls. Saying that once paired whatever sound comes out of the phone it is relayed to the speakers but probably not too high a quality. I just use a USB stick for all my music but that's not much use if you want to use Spotify!

Just thinking, can you plug the USB charging cable that comes with the phone, directly into the USB connector in the glove box?

Nice car man, the SE Technik is a good trim.

If Audi don't make the exact 5s AMI cable then you'll need the lightning plug converter as well.

I have an A7 so this may differ slightly but I do play Spotify via AMI from a 4S, 5 and 5S

I use Bluetooth and it works just fine. Remember that when Apple moved to the lightning connector, they made it very clear that connecting using cables for audio was so last year and that their focus moving forward would be audio over WiFi (AirPlay) and Bluetooth

You first need to pair the phone (of course) then select SOURCE under MEDIA.

I have had a number of A5s and A4s as loaners and they don't all come with AMI so you need to check if your car has the option but assuming it does then yes it works just fine

Try audi-sport.net if you cannot get your question fully answered here. A quick search of the term 'Spotify' turns up quite a few threads.

I think the AMI cable will come with the old style 30 pin Apple plug, so what you want is a lightning to 30 pin adapter like this:

    Digital Save® iPhone 5 5C 5S Adapter 8 pin to 30 pin: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Note, this is for illustration purposes only, I don't know if it's suitable.

It might be safer to get this: Lightning to 30-pin Adapter - Apple Store (UK) or Lightning to 30-pin Adapter (0.2m) - Apple Store (UK)

An AMI micro USB cable would connect to the micro USB adapter you linked to but you may find it can't communicate over it, just charge the phone.

I've just ordered a Q3 and the brochure says ''Provides connection to Apple iPod from 4th generation and Apple iPhone. Bluetooth for handsfree mobile phone connectivity and Bluetooth audio streaming (depending on compatability of mobile phone).''

Can't see it being too different across the range.

I would just use the Bluetooth streaming as explained earlier. Forget about spending money on the cables for ami etc. although it could be handy for charging whilst streaming.

Right - I can connect the phone via bluetooth, and this is fine for calls. But for the life of me I cannot get it to stream music via bluetooth. If I click on 'Media' > 'Source', it brings up this : [IMG]

If I then click on the bottom option (which I presume I should) it then brings up this....and I can do nothing from thereon?? Thoughts please chaps.

What happens when you click on Jukebox?

You can see at the bottom of the screen that bluetooth is connected, should you then change a setting in your phone to transfer music to the new device?

'Jukebox' is a hard drive to store your music on. And WLAN is your wireless network you can create via Sim card.
Go to 'Phone - highlight your phone and settings, and tick Stream music' ..... all this is from memory on my A1 so maybe slightly different to war I remember ..... but you can do it.
    Can check tomorrow for you

Strangely you also need to switch on 'music streaming' under the Bluetooth menu.

Don’t you also need to select the car as the output from the airplay menu on the iPhone?

Have music playing on your iPhone, click 'Media' on headunit. Now is the option to play music from Jukebox, SD card etc yeah ? (As pic you posted) Press your voice command button on right hand side of your steering wheel (next to sat nav button) and say 'Bluetooth' after the beep.
Now your iPhone should stream thro your car.

PS ..... you have bonded the iPhone to your car yeah ?

Thanks Pawsher - I've done it. Went into Phone settings on the MMI and the Bluetooth Audio option was set to 'off' - so I set it to on :

Then went into "Media" and "Source" - and it showed the phone, so connected it as a media source - and now it plays Spotify from the phone via bluetooth to the car - no cables needed.

    Brilliant, and thank you
