had this a few days.
have lots of movies that were converted to a dvd on standard dvd-r discs as my old player would only play standard dvd format.
only some of these will play on this new player?
they will either play or show as a blank disc, even throught these have been made using same program on pc, VSO
any ideas on this?

Are you sure you finalised them all ?

It's a fact that DVD-R discs don't always play OK on various other DVD players. There are several reasons for this:
The type of disc used.
The dye used.
The laser that burned the disc.
The laser that reads the disc.
The life of the disc.
etc, etc.
(Even though they may have been correctly finalised.)
I have DVD-Rs that won't play on a BD burner fitted in a new Sony PC, but play fine on a new Sony DVD recorder.
Sometimes there is no obvious reason, I'm afraid.
