    Hello, everybody.

I'd like to ask what DVD players, in Europe, do you know that have, in their menu, the option of changing the colour system from PAL to NTSC.

I own a Sony NS-585, wich plays NTSC DVD's, but if I want to play a PAL DVD in the NTSC system, it's not possible, because that option is not avaliable.

    Thanks a lot.

But the cheaper ones don't handle the 50/60Hz conversion very well ! You will get dropped frames and jerkiness every few minutes or so. :thumbsdow

It depends on the make and model. I do have one that does it perfectly but was £170 four years ago.

My Cyberhome doesn't do NTSC to PAL very well but the PAL to NTSC is fine.

It's the NTSC > PAL which is the awkward one. I have never seen any player that can handle it even remotely well, so you must have been lucky with that one, keep a hold of it !

It is a a Encore DV450 and is a Sampo clone. They are very popular in the US. All the Sampos can do "with my eyes" do a perfect PAL - NTSC and NTSC - PAL. I have done it both ways many many times and have never noticed any judder or any other artefacts. They were not around very long as they were so popular.

It is my experiment player as I have fiddled with the firmware and it actually uses a firmware from a different Sampo player!

Unfortuntely due to it's age, the drive is not very good anymore and DVD's like to freeze and carry on. It also cannot read many DVD - or DVD + discs and DVD RW discs don't work at all.

I will still never get rid of it.

Oh well that's the problem ultimately with the cheaper players they just don't last ! But you've done real well getting 4 years out of it for sure !

I've got a Sharp 740 which has had light use and is basically a Sampo rebadge. Its multiregion and has macrovision disabled. I'm open to offers on it. Reads discs perfectly. In fact its just about the best reader fo discs I've got but I've just got so many dvd players.
