Whilst trying to edit a programme recorded on my Sony RDR-GX7 I noticed that I had a playback problem. The picture would freeze and sheer before either recovering or jumping to the end of the recording. This happens either in playback or A-B erase functions and is repeatable.

I removed the disk and played it on a Pioneer 868i DVD player and found that the recording was OK and none of the problems I saw on the Sony were evident. I repeated the recording on the Sony (from SKY+ hard drive on AV3) and still had the same problems. I left the original recording on the -RW disk so that it would record on anther part of the DVD.

Any indications as to what is causing this? Is it a dirty laser or more serious than that? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Quinny
