On Sunday I put in a order for Seven.

After reading some of the comment about them, I thought that this would be a good test to see if they were OK.

I was a little concerned as my order status is 'Posted' and there is no Recorded Delivery reference number as there has been in the past.

But I got home today and found the parcel waiting for me.. 3 days.. Pretty good... But it Seems that they are now using 'normal' post, rather than recorded/registered post.

This is worrying as I have a friend who has a 'friend' of a friend who is a postman.. According to him, this 'friend' has a collection of 100s of DVDs which he has obtained through his work.. When he sees/feels a parcel which looks like a DVD (whether on his round or in the sorting office) he lifts it..

I am not saying that all postmen are corrupt. But its easy to believe that there are a bad element in the postal service who might be doing this.

Now that Play are no longer getting a signature for deliveries, this could open up a whole world of troubles.

It seems that they are on a cost cutting exercise.. I guess that with the poor £/$ exchange rate and free delivery, somthing had to give!

I'd be quite happy to pay an extra 50p for recorded delivery.

Or you could give them the benefit of the doubt and think that they might have changed the system because of the complaints about having to sign for DVD's.....

    just a thought

I ordered a music CD from Play and waited 3 weeks for delivery by normal mail. You win some, lose some I guess.

Had another DVD posted from states to hertfordshire and then back to kent that arrived in 6 days!!

    It's a double edged sword.
It's great to be able to track discs, but great to get home from work and not have to go to 'Fort Knox' post offices counters with my life history in documentation to get my discs.
I've never had a problem in the past with deliveries from other companies, so maybe this new method will be ok.
Thanks for leting me know as my Hollow Man is being done now, so maybe one day soon it'll be on my mat.

My discs turned up today from Play at long last. That's precisely 9 working days after the disc I ordered from Express.com one day earlier.

Another disc turned up from Express today that I ordered 31 December. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have the patience to use Play again, but no doubt some people don't mind that if they pay a little less.

    Cue 7-letter word.

I just picked up a Play247 cd today (Gladiator's soundtrack) from the Sorting office (don't know why it's couldn't have just been posted through my door as it doesn't require a signature).

    1. Yup it came from Belgium
    2. For those thieving ******** posties out there they don't have to squeeze the package as
i)The jiffy bag has CD/DVD printed on the back.
ii)The Customs label has Optical Media written on it
iii)The total value of the order is on the Customs printout so they can see if it's worth their while nicking it.

Still glad though that I won't have to sign for the packages - if they go MIA then that's another matter.

    Cheers

ps It was dispatched from Play on 4/01/01...

Regardless of if the disc is sent registered or not it can still be pinched just as easily by a postman. All you have to hope is you have a nice honest one like me Dad is [IMG]

Play sometimes dont send parcels via recorded delivery. Out of my last 5 orders I've had the first 3 sent non recorded, and the following 2 sent via recorded delivery.

I think they drop this service when there busy and need to get parcels out quick.

    Regards

    Big Al

I personally hope they return to registered post as it makes me feel that bit 'safer'.

Plus my postie is my next door neighbour so that helps too! ;-)

    That's nothing....
My postie, gets on so well with me, that he signs my delivery for me and puts them through the door!!!!!! Naughty but Nice!
However, haven't seen him for quite a while.
At the moment I'm 'breaking in' a new one.

    Colonial Marine,

Thanks for the link - I'll let anyone know if I have any difficulties.

All these price wars are rather silly aren't they. If you're going to try to beat someone purely on price, you'd better be sure you're the biggest fish in the pond, but when you're the only one left, you can charge what you like. I suppose the consumers are to blame for putting price above everything else - you get what you pay for and I was never under the illusion that this was an inexpensive hobby [IMG]
