Not looked at Plays region 1 section before yesterday (no multi region player).
However I see it redirects to playusa.com for its sales.
So, if I ordered r1 discs are they shipped from the States or the UK like r2 discs?

Just wondering whether I would be likely to incur customs charges etc if they are sent directly from USA?

    Thanks
    Andrew

I think they are sent from the Channel Islands... As for whether you incur import tax it is very much a case of crossing your fingers and hoping.
However, CD-Wow offer refunds on any customs charges incurred (and are usually cheaper than Play) :smashin:

Play's region 1 discs are shipped from Canada, and are very quick (my last one arrived in 3 days). However, you are almost certain to get caught for customs charges for any region 1 item over £18, since they print the value clearly and accurately on the envelope. Below £18 you will be all right.

I disagree - I have bought hundreds of pounds of region 1 DVDs from Play and have never had to pay import duty.

Just thought I might add my comments;)
AFAIK In stock R1 dvds are shipped from an offbound storage on the brussels airport, out of stock are shipped form canada. you can get cought on both by customs.

I used to use Play but since they sold me a dud copy of Leon the extended edition a few years ago (( i found out about it a few months back )) i contacted em wanted a replacement cos after all they sold it and time shouldnt be a factor when its revealed this particular film was recalled in the states.

Anyways nothing happened so now i use CD Wow and CD Japan and Movietyme and YesAsia and HMV Japan for my orders.

Just got my R1 Indy box set from playusa.com. Got stung for £10 customs charge. So it's ended up costing me £45 in total.

    I wasn't very happy. :(

I used to think that but Movietyme sold me Indiana Jones Boxset and NO Customs charges and this is coming from someone who used to only buy from Play and has over 200 discs bought from them.

That is a killer, i got mine from cd-wow with no customs issues.
I have used Play a lot for R1 and so far have never been hit for customs, infact the only place that i have ever been hit by customs was from ezydvd when i got a buffy set for my bro

i stopped using play cos of the dual language packaging and the problem they plaster their name all over the packaging, so posties tend to get grabby with their stuff!

Well I use playusa.com pretty much exclusively and I think their service and prices are great.

My R1 Indy Boxset got lost in the post (only the 2nd dvd to ever go missing in over 4 years) so after the 14 days were up I emailed them and they posted a replacement that same day.

I got lucky with no import duty down to the fact it was a replacement it was not chargeable and had 0.00 value on the packet!!!

Worth the wait in the end!!!!

Hmmm, seems to be a pattern emerging here. My R1 Indy from Playuse.com also didn't show and a new one is on the way this week.

play.com used to be the cheapest & best around having bought over 100 titles from them ive had a good time with them, but its time to move & save money like cd-wow & thier hong kong site is a few pound cheaper the the uk site.

Play just really isn't that cheap anymore -- I can't remember the last disc I bought off them.

Oh yes I can, it wasn't even a dvd -- it was a game on special offer.

Their dvd special offers aren't that special anymore (akin to HMV sales) and their R1 prices aren't that hot either -- especially since you're liable for customs charges now.

Stopped using them for R1, use cd-wow, dvdsoon -- all the usual suspects, all loads cheaper than Play.

    regards,
    anephric

Like Frodo i just got caught for £10 customs on the R1 Indy bos set but that's the first time in years. Have had a few disks over the £20 mark before as well so it's hit and miss as far as customs go i think.
Got a few disks from DVDBoxoffice and can't remember if they print the value of the contents on the front of the package which does make it kinda obvious for the Customs guys.
