It was bound to happen eventually, I suppose. My Superman boxset arrived from Play247 today along with a Customs VAT Charge of GBP 8 - odd (including the Post Office's levy).

A disappointing development, and one which will discourage me from using Play again.

..is that Play247 now effectively "tagged" by customs then?

I have usd Play frequently in the past without any problem. I used to use express.com for R1 preorders but have ceased using them now because of their problems. After a recommendation from this forum, I used dv-depot for the first time last week - ordered on Friday, and disks arrived today (Tuesday) without any customs problems - box is marked used software.

as far as i am aware, i could be wrong, but i think anything over £30 is liable for a customs charge. That is why play send their disks out indivualy, even if you order 2-3 titles.

In actual fact, £18 is the point at which customs can get their pound of flesh from you. This used to be why play had an £18 limit on their pricing. They must have been losing too much dosh to keep it up. :(

    Bit odd this,

A while back Play started shipping R1 discs via Belgium. In theory C&E should let it go as they're entering the UK from the EU (as with the Amazon - Amsterdam connection).

    Strange.....

If you contact Play they will reimburse you for the customs charge !

Just checked the box my Superman set came in and it was shipped via Belgium.

    Cheers Carlos

    Correct,
I work for Royal Mail and I too recieved my superman box-set this morning with just over £8.00 of charges on it.
    The answer is simple.
Pay the customs charge, get a reciept, send it to play247 and they will reimburse you.
Bit of a fuss I know. Don't think i'll order anything over £18.00 off play247 if this continues to happen!
