Was at a dealer today demoing some AV kit, not a display. They have a Pioneer plasma (looked like a 433xxx) in one of their demo rooms and I was surprised to see very noticeable colour banding in the scenes underwater. Banding was top left quarter of screen between shades of blue. Video source was an Arcam DV79 outputting progressive scan.

Can anyone with the DVD confirm whether this happens on their plasma - it may be setup, but it it happens on all screens it would seriously put me off buying one, my 5 year old CRT has a better picture.

    Reassurance please!

Big Fish however was a disapointment - I get colour banding as well - I think it's the film / transfer / bit rate or whatever. Overall I'm very pleased with my Plasma (Philips 37PF9965), but every now and then along comes a DVD which doesn't quite look the part !
