When thinking about purchasing a plasma screen I usually follow the philosophy that if it looks to good to be true it most probably is a rip off!

With this in mind, has anybody purchased/heard of the following company:

    www.tvplasmas.com/product_info.php?products_id=204

ViewPoint Ltd from madrid in Spain!

Lets just say very competitive prices!!!(see web site above)

I had a look at the link, like you said, the prices are extremely competitive.
I picked a plasma that i was interested in and followed instruction to the payment page. The only methods of payment i was allowed were bank transfer or deposit (there was no option for a credit card). I would be very wary of this as these are pretty unsecure methods of payment i.e you have little backup if the goods don't appear!
Not worth a £2000 gamble in my opinion - better off going to a casino to see if you can raise the extra money to buy the tv from john lewis!

I would be extremely wary of this outfit as some of the products they are listing are in fact US models. I find it very unlikely that they are going to ship a US product from Madrid to the UK. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is !

The part about the only forms of payment being bank transfer or deposit, sounds remarkable dodgy alright.
I suppose best advise is to steer clear!

    My very first post!

Had a quick look at the ViewPoint site. Choosing the Spanish language version, the text looks really weird – very like the result of automatic translation. Just taking one random example, "royalty" in the sense of copyright is not "realeza" – that means royalty as in Queen Elizabeth.

Also, the phone number they quote starts 00346…, which I'm pretty sure would be a mobile.

    Definitely one to avoid.

Marcm that sounds like a great deal!

Could you forward on a link to the retailer?

And let us know how you get on! How much is the shipping and COD on top of the £1,150?

    Thanks

I was following up on the thread "if it looks to good to be true, it probably is" Having recieved the above email after enquiring, I just did'nt have enough confidence in the quality of the mail to part with my hard earned! The search was done on ebay for panasonic plasma. A number of options came up.
I think for my money I would rather pay double and get it from one of the reputable dealers on this forum, knowing i have some comeback if it all goes pear shaped.

    marcm,
my advice to you would be to never by anything outside of an official ebay auction where you have been contacted by a supposed ebay user.
i lost out this way myself trying to by a mobile phone. i must say the email was remarkably similar to yours and i was convinced it was legit. after replying with my interest and handing over my shipping details i was contacted with a UPS reference number - i checked this on the website and it told me that a shipment had been arranged - so i proceeded to make payment via money transfer! Guess what...no goods! After failing to contact the 'seller' i got in touch with UPS who told me that an arrangement of shipping did not indicate they had the goods or that they would definately be shipped, it is almost like a quote they give that a client can follow up on and proceed with shipping.
Once you know how this works, it seems so simple but at the time i thought i was getting a great deal from an honest trader.
Also note that these scammers are almost never based in the uk but usually some far off european country like italy!!!

sorry for the essay but i wouldn't like people to lose money - or faith in trusty sellers - by the same experience i had!

when you're talking about £1000+ the best bet is to pay a little more from the genuine traders on these forums and at least you know you're getting your goods instead of a dodgy UPS number!
