I’ve been to Comet today and they were playing a black and white clip on all the latest PDPs. I was looking at the 42” Pioneer and when I moved my eyes to look at the Hitachi, I saw what can only be described as “green glow" (like rainbow effect on DLPs)”. I witnessed the same effect on all PDPs on the shop floor but some were yellow mixed with green. Afterwards, I started to notice the same effect in fast sequence videos (in color obviously).

So how many of you are affected by this? I can see rainbow effect on DLP and now this lol. Hopefully I won’t see anything on the next display devices (SED and OLED).

Saw it on the Hitachi 9700 only with B&W material.
See it on the Pioneer 427.
Saw it on the Fujitsu 58 Series (very annoying during one film)
Do not see it on my Panasonic PH9

do you get a rainbow effect when looking at the screen your viewing? or only when you move you eyes to look away?

if its only as you look away and move your eyes how is it an issue? I for one don't watch TV by moving my eyes around or looking away from it.

i must be lucky as ive never noticed this effect when viewing on a plasma

That’s how I first noticed it but then, I began to notice on fast sequences of 25fps videos. However, I can see some green trail on full 50fps videos.

It's hard to explain, I think this should make more sense.

If you’re wondering what the effect looks like, take a look

The following quote was taken from the AVSforum.

This is EXACTLY what i see on my Panasonic 42PX60 :

Monitor test matrix: white rectangles are moving @ different speeds and should disappear as soon as they hit borders...:

This effect is even worst for me because i see this exact same flashes as soon as i move my eyes from white to dark and vice-versa.

It sux to be me (really).

I get this especially on a plasma if I move my eyes around the screen to look at different parts of it - not just if I move my eyes away from the screen entirely.

How much you'll be affected by this really depends on how you watch the screen - some people probably move their eyes very little when viewing the screen, whereas others move their eyes more rapidly to look at different parts.

The more you move your eyes to focus on different parts, the more you might see it.

If i don't move my eyes or just a bit all i can see is the REAL green ghosting effect (and it's verry annoying, especially in B&W movies or Concerts).
When i'm watching a subbed movie i get this plus the flashes that my eyes tend to create.
I guess all the plasmas would do the same for me, no matter what the brand or the model is, right ?

footix - I get the same problem on my px60.

Have you tried other brands of plasma? Do you have the same problem? I did not notice this affect when I was demoing, but now I seem to see it everywhere!

I've not tested other brands, but i've been told that if i can see it will be the same on every other brands.

I phoned the shop where i bought it, and a guy will come to my house tomorrow, he said that was caused by bad image settings like contrast.

I told him this has nothing to do with it, but he insited badly so ... wanna come ? please, be my guest :)

I'll keep you posted whatever his verdict is.

I would be interested to hear the result. Although I imagine it will be the 'its a plasma trait' response.

If I knew for for definite that it was an issue with all plasmas and not just model specific or worse my particular panel, then I would probably let it go and not let it bother me!

 oh no!! I hope I don't see this on plasmas!!!
My mate has got a DLP projector and I can't watch anything on it, as I see flickering rainbows constantly in my peripheral vision.

smokingreen: Guess what, the guy showed up today and told me it was a plasma trait :)
However, he was very friendly and invited me to try all the DVDs i want in store to see if other brands do it (which is what i'll do tomorrow).

The ultimate solution would be to switch to LCDs he said, but i had one for a month and I can't stand their poor PQ, plus they are way more too pricey for 42".

I hope i'll find a model that apply to me, but chances are slim. Someone reported that he can't see the green trails on the PH9 series, too bad we don't have them in France.

    I'll keep you posted tomorrow

My sammy does this on skin tones with fast movement. It doesnt do it on white or dark things though.

i think it is a plasma technology issue much like DLP projectors.

I sent my PX60 back because of green ghosting - turns out I can see it (although not as badly) on my new 427XD in Gears of War. Not letting it bother me this time though, all of a sudden I stopped caring (which was nice).
