I have yet to set my new 42" Panasonic with component cables yet and am currently running a cheap DVD player through an S video cable. I don't seem to have any choice on the picture settings. It is permanently set on ZOOM. Is this normal ? Won't it change to have the full selection with the component leads?

I had exactly the same problem!

I bought a 3m scart to RGB & Composite video lead from Lectropacks sp? for about £65 and this works a treat, though if you're planning on using component and also want to use RGB sources, it may be worth looking at an RGB to VGA converter for around £120.

    Hope this helps,

    Neil
