Iv'e been asked by a relative to select and purchase a new tv. Buget can go up to £2000 for a 42" set (can be plasma or LCD). Would like to buy the best picture quality and performance available .Only TV and DVD will be displayed and sound quality not as important. Need help thanks!

Panny P42V10, around £1000-1100. No need to spend more on a 42". Review on this site.
And as you have no HD/Bluray you could look at the P42X10 for under £600. It's only HD Ready, but you dont need a 1080p panel.

rewerb,

Why should I buy a V10 rather than a G10 when I am only going to watch SD on Sky. Picture quality, particularly football, and sound being of prime importance. I just want you to convince me why V10 will achieve my requirements more than G10. Ignore THX (Unless it has a bearing), No. of HDMI's, Viera Cast, DLNA, slimness and SD Card.

Well you did ask for the best picture quality and that's what THX picture mode delivers. Excellent, almost perfect colours, "straight out of the box" without a professional calibration.

But if you're happy with the G10 colours, which are very good indeed and you dont want Viera Cast etc. the the G10 will be most suitable.

For the OP, the X10 is probably the best option as a 720p (HD ready screen) will give a better picture with SD than a full HD 1080p screen.

rewerb,

Just to make sure that I have got this right, are you saying that THX improves SD picture quality regardless of whether or not films are being viewed. I am nearly there and am willing to spend the extra money to get the correct product. Thanks a lot.

Forgive me, are you not hijacking this thread, started by Col1R?
