Received my pw6 today from av-sales. Great to see a company deliver when they say they will

Delivery man had plasma laying flat on top of a load of other things, so I was a bit anxious when I opened the box, but thankfully the screen was not in a million pieces in the box

Eventually my 17 month old fell asleep and I was able to plug the beast in. Ye Gods, no power.... ahhh .... straight to Alastair who was, as always, quick and helpful. Was afraid to mess with the plasma too much, but decided to try another power lead and yippee problem solved :smashin:

Can't believe a stupid power lead could cause such a range of emotions

Won't have time to have a good look until later, when the kids are in bed, but I'm a happy camper. Even the wife is looking forward to me mounting the plasma on the wall.

All in all, a nervous day, but will hopefully be worth it tonight.

A big thank you to Alastair and all at av-sales. If you're thinking of buying, look no further.

Mine was delivered from AV Sales in a huge lorry. The only box in the back and it was also lying flat on it's face. Wasn't even tied to the side. Must have bounced around like a pinball in there all the way round the west of Scotland before heading east to me  (the driver had come from Cumbernauld but had been round Glasgow and East Kilbride)

This is the only critisism of AV Sales as they claim to use specialised couriers and was another reason I bought from them (safe in the knowledge that it would be transported correctly). Mine might as well have come from Currys the way it was handled.

Still, it's been working fine since I got it, and to be fair to AV Sales, I recieved an email from one of the directors apologising and to contact them if anything goes wrong.

Seriously guys you should tell AV Sales about this. They're a good outfit and I'm sure they would want to know.

Plasmas absolutely must NOT be transported flat.

    Hi all

Hopefully the mods will allow me to respond to this thread. philipb is right plasma screens should be transported upright to avoid the chassis of the screen flexing and leading to cracked glass etc. We have taken this matter up at senior levels with the carriers who are taking this matter seriously and are looking into any cases brought to our attention.

    Regards

    Alastair :hiya:

my plasma was delivered from av-sales to Cornwall by a firm called kay o'niell
the plasma was strapped upright securely to the side of the van. The delivery
man insisted on helping me unpack it from the box, and checking it was OK.

Can't fault em in any way.

I got mine from eBuyer... (didn't know about AV-sales then or I would have used them)

It was strapped upright on a pallet and wrapped securely in plastic.

    Really well protected and packaged!

When I received mine, the delivery man was more than helpful, he just didn't seem to realise that they should be kept upright. I informed Alastair and he responsed immediately and was quite concerned.

Plasma is now securely affixed to my living room wall (I hope :)) and as I'm awaiting a component board and rgb to vga box the only connection is via scart.

I connected my dvd player last night and must admit I was very impressed. I'm certainly no videophile, but I'm quite happy with the picture. Can't wait to get the component and rgb to vga, just to compare the difference.

Looking forward to the weekend, a good movie, bottle of wine and the plasma, oh and the wife will be there as well

So the big sign on the box saying
CAUTION, TRANSPORT ONLY IN UPRIGHT POSITION
didn't mean anything to the delivery driver then?

Just to say guys "TAKE it OUT of DYNAMIC MODE" and they should be transport upright but its not the end of the world..... suggest you make a note of any issues like plasma turning up on its back Driver name and vehicle REG number and just quietly pass it on to your supplier.

Bit unfair on Currys re delivery. I bought my Viera 2 months ago from Currys online. Their price was the best I could get from all the usual online retailers at the time and they delivered to Northern Ireland for a reasonable price (unlike some of the online retailers that won't deliver here or quote silly costs for delivery of plasmas). They delivered it upright, on time, on a Sunday afternoon and 2 guys carried it into our living room and unpacked it. There was also a signed pre-delivery check docket including a pixel check. I've also bought other items from them online (washing machine, DVD recorder) and I really can't fault their service and their online prices which are generally much better than their in store prices. And no, I don't work for them....

Is it only a question of cracked glass? or can it do unseen damage that might not become apparent until 13 months down the line?

I won't be happy if mine arrives on it's back on Friday.

if its gonna go it will be when you open the box to a mound of glass lumps or a nice big crack all across it...

Ah, but you N.Ireland guys are a jolly lot. I'm yet to meet an unfriendly or unhelpful Irishman. Up here in the North we get "sign here" and "goodbye". When Currys delivered our washing machine the bloke pushed it under the worktop with his knees, resulting in a suspiciously knee-shaped dent in the front. He the promply exited, although not before I had written "delivered with dent on front" on the consignment note before signing. Did the same with the plasma.

I would like to re-inforce that AV Sales were very concerned when I phoned them and I have no doubt that they would have sorted it quickly if there had been a problem.
