I have taken the plunge and ordered a 42PHD6, which hopefully will be with me tomorrow :D

Mrs itcosthowmuch :lesson: being the sensible one, checked on our insurance policy only to find that the high risk items wouldn't cover the plasma screen. Made a phone call to the insurance company only to be told "I am unable to sell you another policy, but someone will call you back".

Has anyone else had to increase their home contents policy or perhaps taken a policy out just to cover the screen (and if so who with)?

    Cheers

    M

PS Thanks to everyone on here who have posted some great comments that enabled to me view the various screens with insight and confidence.

Our insurance covers the plasma too. We checked before we bought.

my insurance covers plasma, checked before delivery. This is something you definately want covered because it's pretty tempting to a burglar, and if they can't nick it because it's too heavy/fixed to the wall, they'll probably fudge it up out of spite.

If your existing insurer can't help you try another. I'm with Norwich Union for example.

I'm with eSure and they do not have anything in their policy document that specifically excludes plasmas. (I read it all to make sure).

Are there really insurers that have specific terms in their policies that exclude plasma tvs?

I'm with esure too, I think they rate plasmas as just other high risk items (as they are > £1500)...so as long as your total high risk cover does not exceed your insured value you should be ok...

Thanks for your replies. Now sorted out cover, believe or not cheaper than our old policy but through the same company (and with better cover!).

Just to complete everything, the plasma and all the bits have turned up as well......going to busy for a while now!!!!!

Oh yeah forgot to say......some policies have a "high risk total limit" and a "single article limit". And seeing as our single article limit was only £2000 it wouldn't cover the plasma. Best check that any policies "single article limit" is over the cost of a replacement screen!

if you buy from a "Local" dealer the warranty often covers alot more and has no ground work or excess involved.
