Can someone please explain why plasma panels knock out IR remote signals, but appear to use IR remotes themselves..? Are their own remotes useless..?

I'm sure someone with a more technical brain can give you the full SP on how much and at what levels panels produce stray IR so I'll not go there for now.

I have three panels set up in our TV room at present and with all three running there is no detrimental affect on the operation of any of my source kit remotes or the three plasma remotes.

The only problem I have ever encountered is in positioning any IR repeater system 'receivers' (QED Room link etc) - which if positioned too close to a display can pick up stray IR from the display and send weird commands back to the master control unit.

    Best regards

    Joe

No need for more tech details than that, just keep your IR recievers, all of them to be on the safe side, out of line of sight of the plasma glass, and you are 99%sure to be OK, I've known a IR lightswitch to be affected, 2m from the screen and clear view of the picture.

Not a myth, just chinese whispers, exadgeration and the wrong end of the stick. It's an issue, but not so serious.
