Apologies if this has been covered but I searched and found nothing...

Can anyone clarify/confirm how many disc there are in either the blu-ray or HD-DVD versions of Planet Earth being released in the UK this October?

I ask because I pre-ordered a set from Play a few months ago which specifically stated it was a 5-disc version. However when I checked my Play order recently I noticed it was now shown as a 4-disc version. I checked Play and could find no listing of a 5-disc version ever existing. However, both HMV and Amazon.co.uk are still advertising for pre-order a 5-disc set...

What on earth (pun not intended) is going on? Is there actually a 5-disc version coming out on blu-ray or HD-DVD or was this an error (since the original DVD versions came on 5 discs) that they've simply corrected? If the latter, why would Amazon and HMV still be showing the 5-disc version as being available?

    Anyone... :lease:

There are 5 discs in that version the US version has 4 discs and is 50 minutes shorter and narrated by Sigourney Weaver for some ridiculous reason

Yeah I'm aware of the US 4-disc version. What I'm confused about is the UK version being released at the end of October - whether that is supposed to be 4-discs or 5-discs.

Maybe the Blu Ray discs are 25GB and need the extra disc.

The BBC US edition is not narrated by Weaver, its Richard all the way.

The version that is narrated by weaver is the US discovery channel version, most people have the US BBC version.

The US BBC version is complete except is missing the 110 minute Future episode that appeared on the fifth disc of SD versions, so maybe thats what is included in this version?

My Blu-ray US BBC edition is 4 discs BD25's.

The discovery version is the one that is cut by 50 minutes.

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/planetearth_us.html - this explains it all

SO this UK BBC version either has the wrong description, or has the extra Future episode included on them?

Indeed - all very confusing. I have contacted the BBC directly to ask what's going on. Hopefully they will reply at the start of the week.

Don't the US edition(s) also have the fantastic diary sections of Planet Earth missing?

I'm hoping these will be on the UK release:lease:

yes it does (have them missing that is), both editions in the US do, i'd be surprised if the Uk version also had them removed unless they are going for a special edition in a while with them all on as the standard DVD set has them on.

    Weird

    Any update on this?

I've looked at 2 │ entertain's website but there's no info. There's a phone no. to ring if someone wants to try: 020 7612 3000.

The coverart on bbcshop.com for PE HD DVD is similar to that for the US BBC Warner version, whereas for the BD it is different (same as on Amazon.co.uk) and the text for this actually says: "Includes the 'Making of' shorts that accompany each episode, and three extra episodes of Planet Earth: The Future."

If you look at the specs the one you are looking at IS the US one as it carries their rating, if you do a search for 'planet earth' on amazon, two of the hits are both £37.99 (one bluRay the other HD DVD) these are both the UK ones out in Oct 22nd, and both covers show 5 discs NOT 4, so it does indeed look like we get the proper version.

Any of us with pre-orders for the HD DVD need to be very careful that the store/s we've ordered from don't try to send the US version in its stead just because its region free.

Personally really looking forward to this, the SD boxset looked awesome so I'm hoping for very good things from this boxset.
