Has anyone heard this new sound format yet? I was just curious to know how much better it is than DPLII. Personally I though pro logic was very poor but DPLII is much better, so I'm interested to know just how much better PLIIx would be, espeically if Arcam decide to have it as an upgrade option for my AV8.

It's exactly the same as PLII except that it can spread the rear channels across surround back speakers as well. So if you have a "7.1" setup you'll get something on the surround back channel. If you don't then it will sound exactly the same as PLII.

I believe it also works with 5.1 in a similar way to logic 7.

NicolasB is correct. Unless you have 7.1 you won't really benefit from the new format. Denon is releasing an upgrade for its flagship 5803 receiver that will incorporate DPLIIx. Here's the press release

Whether this upgrade is a big deal depends upon the size of your room and whether you are doing 7.1. I personally think the jump from DPL to DPLII was monumental. This latest format just accommodates the recent trend towards 7.1.

interesting thanks, sounds like it wouldn't be worth it for me as I only have a 5.1 set up. I agree about the difference between prologic and PLII it's such a difference, I think it's great.

To change the subject, I was wondering whether it would be worth uograding to 6.1, does it sound that much better than 5.1? Unless I'm mistaken there don't seem to be that many DVD's that are in 6.1 anyway. Bu tthen I wouldn't be ableo to bi-amp my front L/R speakers so that's probably a bad idea anyway.

PLIIx seems to be on the higher end at the moment - any ideas on when it might come to the "£500 and below" market.

Its supposed to be on the Marantz 7400, but nothing concrete as such - I mention it because its available for less that £500.

Looks a very good reciever on paper but would like to hear it first.

The following press release by Dolby seems to confirm the 7400 will do PLIIx

    http://www.dolby.com/press/ce_pr_0309_plIIx.html

It also states that the an upgrade for the sr7300 will be made available, superfi are currently offering these for £410, does the 7400 offer anything more?

Im not sure on all the differences there are between the two.

A new remote control? avaialability in silver amongst others.

Is there that much of a difference between the two? If the 7300 is upgradable then that sound like a good buy.

edit.. sorry its early typing is all over the place

seems like a big difference is that the 7400 is 7.1 and the 7300 is only 6.1 Discrete Channels.

Would be nice if Pioneer released a successor to the 912 with 7.1 and PL IIx for below £500. I'm probably asking for too much there :(

What chipset/spec differences are there? Are these going to make for an improved amp?
