PJ/Plasma - DVD Output dilemma!

Standard Member
Hi folks,
Long question - but looking for any pointers!

I've a cheapo Firstline Plasma (from eBuyer), a recently arrived Philips DVP-3040 and an Optoma HD72 on order  I've also a Yamaha RX-V657 receiver in the mix.

All bar the Plasma are v. new, my issue I have is that when I attempted to spit out P-scan from the DVD player (into Plasma component in) the picture goes haywire. A bit of luck and guess-work meant that I resolved that by switching the DVD output to NTSC. (I read on a US-thread that also upping the input to 1080i would do the trick, but that's not an option (I can find) on the 3040.

So, my dilemma/confusion/ignorance - the HD72 is obviously HD capable, but according to the manual the DVD player on NTSC fires out 720 x 480. Would the Optoma override and upscale? Or am I compromising available quality on the PJ because of the Plasma? Will I need to switch between PAL & NTSC each time I switch from PJ to Plasma!?

I guess I could return the DVD fpr one that will upscale to 1080i........oh no! I'm getting lost in the options again :suicide:

Any help appreciated.
