My Tosh 220 looks a bit sick! :(

All the DVD's I tried playing last night have random blocks of video appearing as garbage.
If I don't get that symptom, the video plays hesitantly, like it's strobed.

There were no problems until last night.
The DVD player wasn’t overly warm or cold.
The sound track and cd’s sound OK.

What do you think is wrong?
Just a dirty lense?
Or is it a ‘return to base’ job? The player is 8 month old.

I guess a dirty lense or the laser (tracking mechanism) needs adjusting.
CDs are written less dense than DVD, so that would explain why you haven't found a problem there.

Try to clean it and if it still doesn't work I think it's a repair job. Since it's only 8 month old it should be covered by warranty.
In fact I would go straight to the dealer and not try to clean it by yourself.

Reiner, thanks for the feedback.

It's an online merchant. Maybe it's worth trying a clean 1st?!

Oh! Some other symptoms that I could've mentioned: -

It is no longer a multiregion player, and a few of the settings were messed up (wrong value or garbage).

Anyway, I know some 220 owners have had to reload the firmware, but my online merchant seems on the ball, so it's a RTB job.

Thanks.

(I'll try remember post the final outcome)

Not quite the 'final' post as I still need to check the repair, but I sent them the player Monday, and it's back with me Wednesday afternoon.

www.dvdplayers.co.uk is the supplier/merchant

PS I appreciate it may just have needed a firmware refresh, etc. Still good work imo.
