A reasonably good film I have to say, with Sequels (if you call them that) currently in the making for the big screen :)

Disagree. Loved it. Great film and you'll enjoy it for sure. One of the 'much' better films in sci fi in recent years.

    Dimmy and Kevo are insane.

seems like a very independent film with the use of camera, etc, but big budget effects!

Plus if you can remember her, its got that bird catherine who used to be stonefish's missus in neighbours!!
    shes still hot!

    Also Claudia Black from Farscape.

IMO quite dull and predictable. Diesel Van does his usual non acting.

Yep much, much better than I remembered from seeing it the first time... it's going on my to get list.

IMO the role suited Diesel well because he doesn't have to be believable.

Enjoyed it but I though a little formullistic ie a bunch of people have to get ot of a bad situation and get well you get what I mean, Alien 4, Deep Rising, Deep Blue Sea etc.

Decidedly average when I first saw it, didn't get no better last night either. So the answer to your question, from me at least, would be no it isn't:p

Her name is Radha Mitchell and she is indeed very lovely. Currently my telly is knackered (again) with contrast issues so Pitch Black is probably not the film to watch without me degenerating into an appoplectic rage.

I know it is nit picking but what the heck did all those creatures live on, seeing there were no other live life forms on the planet? (Yeah I know some were killing each other).

Yup, more plot holes than swiss cheese.

Unless they have a low metabolic rate and are cannibals.

They don't seem to eat that many of the cast either- simply maiming and killing seems to suffice. There were those little ones at the start- could they be the mystery foodstuff?

Well I'm sure they have now : thats a potential spoiler in my book.

Personally I find it well over-rated. It looks sooo cheap ...bad art direction and costume. The VFX are pretty good on the whole but the darkness really helps! as does the blown out space shots. ( I think the crash ...sucks..)

Am I right in thinking that the version shown last night was missing a couple of bits: conversation with the merc guy about having his spine blown out : hence the morphine addiction or was I off for a jimmy?

I really don't rate Twohy's work. Below is pretty lackluastre stuff too.

Hmm, I didn't really think it was a spoiler but have gotten rid of it anyway.

    Spoiler (highlight to read):

There certainly must have been other creatures living on the planet at one time - hence all the huge skeletons. Those could be from animals that have died very recently and been picked clean - there might possibly be others close by (that have got the sense to hide when there's an eclipse coming).

I thought it was a great film. Very enjoyable from start to finish. Unrated Director's Cut on R1 adds some nice extra elements :)

DTS :D and some extra character and plot development earlier on in the movie. I think one scene has a little extra gore too.

Pitch Black 2 coming soon
