This film has a DTS sound track, but how do I select it??

Each time I go through the options, all I get is the THX set up??

Anyone else having the same problem?

Select the audio setup before you play the film, the DTS option is in there. :smashin:

R2 - DTS Sound is good but picture is below average (it's a little soft and has edge enhacement halos) i've heard similar reports about the R1 version.

    :nono:

PQ is actually superb on the R2 version. Not soft at all, no cmpression artefacts, ultra clean and very detailed. It does have some EE, but still one of the best DVDs I've seen this year. R2 DTS also very good, no popping.

Every rope has a feint glow around it, and I found that quite distracting. When I say it's a little soft, I mean it's not as sharp as The Two Towers, T3 or The Matrix Reloaded - this is mainly due to the halos and the fact that when a picture has got halos it's wasting pixels displaying the halos rather than picture data. perhaps i'm being a little bit fussy - there are plenty of dvd's that look a lot worse - but it's not something i'd expect with a transfer of a new film.

you need to physically choice the audio setup, it is on the same screen as the thx thing.

I think my problem started because my gf's sister watched it first and it had finger prints..... i thought it was clean but obviously there is something more to it...... i guess finger prints are going to be corrosive so must just have been unlucky.

Got my R2 copy yesterday from Asda, and there is no kind of booklet whatsoever inside - not even a chapter listing!

Is this the same for all R2? :(

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Another DTS disc to not play properly!!!

Got as far as the layer change then the sound went and disc started skipping

Had to turn player off to select any menu items before i could change back to DD5.1 and finish watching the movie.

    Have the R1 version btw.

Disc brand new just opened and stuck straight in.

Player Philips 963SA, I really think its time to send this player back to philips as it cannot play DTS discs anymore :(

No probs here with the DTS track,....it sounds brill....evern sounds a lot better than the DD......for some reason the DD track sounds a bit muffled to me.....where the DTS is crystal clear.
This is the best film i have seen all year (wish i'd gone to the cinema to see it now).
In case you are intrested, i am playing it on a denon 2200.....watched it about 10 times since i brought it.
The niegbours came round after about the 4th time, complaining that their doors were shaking, so i had to turn it down..........thats how good the DTS trcak was.

Don't know whether you've found the DTS option yet, but here goes.

When you go to setup and you get the Languages / Subtitles / THX business, select Languages. This should give you a choice of either English or English DTS. Select the English DTS and then you'll get a screen with "need for a DTS decoder" blurb. At the top that screen is the DTS and DD logos. Select the DTS one, then Main Menu fron the Setup screen and then Play.

    Hope this helps

No probs. I think putting something like Audio Option instead of Language would have been better. Apart from that, excellent film and soundtrack :smashin:

I've got the R1 version and thought the soundtrack was pants!
Sweet FA happening in the rears during most of the film!

Then again I thought sweet FA was happening in the content of the film as well!

Teach me to buy a bloody Walt Disney Live action film!

just watched this film.....superb....i thought i was watching a "carry on" film for much of it.

DTS soundtrack played without any problems and the picture quality was superb also.

Decent but not outstanding picture quality and average sound design, film was ok but a more enjoyable pirate yarn was Cutthroat Island which also had the most overcooked and lovely sound. (( especially the Japanese DTS edition ))

Still can't believe the reviewers on this site gave Cutthroat Island which has one of the best action orientated soundtracks going ((and a music score to die for)) with effects and rear action surrounds constant throughout the film LESS marks than Pirates which sounds inferior in EVERY respect, oh well one person's opinion will always differ to anothers.

Just watched my R2 copy last night and was interested to see my Marantz SR7400 went into DTS-ES Matrix 6.1 mode. Anyone else had their amp do this when set to 'auto decode mode' or do yours detect it as standard DTS 5.1?

It is in DTS ES and DD EX!
But it might as well have been in Prologic as the rears did nothing!
A very over-rated film IMO and far too long!

Judging by my "waiting to watch" list - I will finally get around to this in about 2005!

Can't wait, though. It is a leetle long - but Depp is just quality!

I love Depp too! That's why I bought this DVD!

But not even Depp could save this sinking ship! :boring:
