My heart says go for the 436xde but my head says the Panasonic 500.

    Why?

Because the Pioneer 435 in John Lewis has a dead pixel, Pioneer 505xde in Costco has a dead pixel, previous Pioneer 434 in Costco had a dead pixel, and today I noticed that the DVD menu had burnt in on the 435xde in Costco (all the other plasmas/lcds on that feed were ok). I will check back to see if it's burn-in or image retention. Without doubt the PQ is fantastic on the 435xde but I could not accept any screen with a dead pixel or screen burn-in BTW my Panasonic LXD1 (bought June2004) gained a dead pixel within 2 days but was replaced and touch wood the new one has been fine.

    The research continues.
