Anyone recommend a retailer to purchase this beauty?

I've found it at Unbeatable for £698 + Delivery which I thought was pretty good.

    What do you guys think!?

    Cheers in advance

£670 at Ask Direct in London for in stock amp without too much haggling - not sure what is going to happen to the price once new 5i is released though.

Sparykpups - they still are! I'd chose this over the A5i any day - seems illogical to spend another £600ish for an iLink.

The i-link will add another £250 or so i.e. you can pick up a 2011 for £670ish now and I think the 5i will retail for £1100 so should be had for £900 to £950ish. There are other differences e.g. upgraded power supply but I would agree with Dimmy - unless DVD-A and SACD are important to you and you have or will have an i-link player capable of playing these formats - I would go for the 2011 as it's just an amazing piece of equipment for the money and that's what I plan to do (just hope it's not available for a lot less in two months time!).

Demand has been outstripping supply on the 2011 units for some time. I emailed Creative Audio about the merits of buying a 2011 now or waiting for when the AX3 and AX5i come out.

This is the reply I received:

"We currently have plenty of 2011s - sales are actually increasing at the moment, because everyone now realises that the new generation units are only a little bit better, but a lot more expensive. It's as if Pioneer were selling the 2011s cheaper than they should have............! (The buzz from Pioneer is that that is exactly the case, so now they know they have another winner on their hands, it's 'payback time'!).

I'd grab a 2011 each if I were you - we are going to try to get as many as we can before they disappear!"

Therefore I don't think there will be many 'surplus' 2011 units around in a month or so and don't expect any sort of price drop as retailers try to offload old stock. If you want one, buy it now.

I have realized too that it's best to buy a 2011 now - it really is a steal at that price. But what do you think - will there be a lot of used 2011's when the state-of-the-art people sell theirs to upgrade to an AX5?

A 2011 that has been used for a few months shouldn't be all bad, right?

I'm looking to buy one of these, once I have moved to New Zeland. I am currently trying to sell my Onkyo 787 THX amp to make things easier for me when I am travelling and moving over there.

With it weighing 16+Kg it wont easily fit in my back pack.

Anyway, let me know what you think of this once you have bought it....

    I'm jealous already...

I've been considering giving up my first love, my Sony 930 and moving on..I had been leering across the dance floor at the Denon3803 but now the Pioneer is looking a bit saucy, how does this compare with my Sony (or the Denon) ?

    cheers

Heh - sorry I can't answer the question, but you aren't alone. I reckon my 930 will be back in its box by the end of the year :( (and :) :) )

    Cheers,
    A.

Empire Direct are showing the 2011 at £662.93 with free delivery.
I got a price match on this at the Power Centre, in Bradford, but I was buying a 42" Plasma, DVD Recorder, KEF speakers and connections, at same time, so possibly gave me better bargaining power.

I too now have this unit and what a beast it is

    the auto setup is amazing

though it did cost me £750 (from the local AV shop) but I did get free hi-quality speaker cables (enough for 7 speakers in a medium size room) and intrest free credit over 9months.

Got mine from Sevenoaks in Bristol (Whiteladies) for £730 :) They we're so shocked when I showed em the Sevenoaks ad showing it at that price ;)

I prefer to buy stuff like this from high street retailers like Sevenoaks anyways, prefer the service (and free cables! QED Silver An :D ) for a £20-30 more (which isn't much when your spending £700!)
