I looked at the Pioneer 912 for a while but they seemed to be rarer than hens teeth but I've spotted it again recently for £350 - I currently have a Sony 930 and enjoy movies & music equally..would this be a good move forward or would you recommend spending a bit more on say the Denon 2805 I think £600 would be my top whack but cheaper would be better any thoughts or recommendations very welcome - cheers

cheers Dfour - did you audition any of these before you bought your Yammy & if you were on the market for a similarly priced amp just now would you go for the 1400 again?
I'm going to have to get off my ass and go and listen to some of these amps rather than reading about them..

NO where I lived I hardly had any acess to them :( I auditioned the H/K 3350 because i couldnt listen tto the 5550 which i wanted. If i was going to get an amp now instead of my 1400 i would either get the 2400 or maybe the replacement for the Marantz 7400, the 7500 or maybe the new H/K. I still love my 1400 though and it would take something special for me to replace it . Nice Rotel pre/power combo maybe

i would say go and listen to a Harman Kardon- worth it for the Logic 7 processing alone imo
the Yamaha '750 is none too shabby either but the HK has it beaten for stereo abilities imo.
Marantz surround amps i've found to be a little gutless in movie mode but good for music.

Why the 450? Why not the 650 as it has 7 channels and more power? I would still say the Yamaha is better than the Pioneer, not by much but still better
    :D

Which ever you choose you would be happy with anyway. The Yamaha is a bit ugly as well

I upgraded to a Sony 930 DVD and a Pioneer 912. Both sound great. But with hindsight wish I had gone for the 730 DVD player same pic and sound quality but no SACD. 912 wise I like it!

the 450 not the 650 coz the 450 is a little bit more expensive than the 812 the 650 would be out of my budget. & i see that the 912 only has the MCaac (what ever it's called) in automatic mode & it's similar to 812 in every way so its 450 vs 812.
