To all VSX-D2011 owners out there:

I'm about to buy a VSX-D2011-S receiver myself, but came across a buyer's review on the www claiming that the fan noise was very annoying.

Since I have to play my surround system at low volumes from time to time and the fact that I am quite sensitive to fan noise, is this a real drawback with the D2011 unit or was the reviewer exaggerating it a lot?

    Comments, please...

Does the 2011 actually have a fan? I thought it had heatsinks?

If you look over at AVS Forum there is a long thred on this. The 2011 is the 45tx over there. One guy opened his up and despite the fact that there is a fan vent on the back there isn't actually a fan in there.

I have driven my 2011 pretty hard and have yet to hear a fan come on, if there is one in there at all.

    Thanks for the reassuring words!

Does anyone know what the he** this guy in the review is referring to then???

Perhaps there are some minor differences between the Europian model VSX-D2011 and the U.S. model VSX-45TX due to regulations?

Push mine hard all the time, never heard the fan.

The only amp I know which had a problem was the first version of the Onkyo flagship, 989 I think and they fixed this with an upgraded fan after a few months.

Buy the 2011, you won't be disapppointed.

    The AX10i ( which i'm picking up today:D :D ) doesn't have a fan, only VERY BIG and HEAVY heatsinks !

The fan was one of the reasons i opted for the more expensive model ( i don't like fans...they just gather dust !!:nono: )

    Cheers

Never heard the fan on my 2011...either at low (-35dB) or during high(-5dB) levels.

I've never heard any fan either, and have been surprised at how cool the 2011 stays. The top is only ever warm to touch, unlike the NAD stereo amp I used to use which I could quite easily have fried an egg on...

According to the manual there is a fan...... But saying that I've never heard it or seen it... so nothing to worry about!
