I have been thinking of pairing this receiver with the pioneer dvd 565 as they would fit nicely under my Tosh PF2 which doesn't have enough space for the larger receivers such as the DX812. However, I did want to have the benefit of the DVDA and SACD from the dvd player, and I'm not sure this is possible with the connections on the receiver.

Could someone please clarify this for me.

    Cheers

Wouldn't the connection be the usual digital one?

The WHF review of the receiver seemed to imply that the unit can take four of the six channels required for DVD-A/SACD with the other channels delivered by SCART which sounded a bit odd but they implied it worked quite well. Can't comment as I haven't heard it but it will (on paper at least) deal with both formats from the output of the 565/656.

    Thanks for that.

Having looked closer at the Pioneer website there is actually a back panel diagram which confirms what you have said about the scart. Very unusual.

As far as I know there is only one amp which allows a single digital cable to be used for multi-channel audio, but I can't remember which one. I think it's a high end Pioneer.

What month of WHF was the review?

    Cheers.
