Pioneer VSX-49TX Receiver question

I have had this receiver for about 2.5 years now, and all has been well.

Yesterday however, while watching a football game, it unexpected shut down on me - just went into standby.

When trying to turn it back on, it would come on normally, the standby light would flash for 3 seconds or so, then it would shut back down again.

I called a repair center who said they no longer repaired receivers, but the tech advised me to unplug the receiver, disconnect all speakers, and wait 15 minutes or so then reconnect the speakers and plug it back in.

I did this, and then it was able to power up normally. I'm wondering why this happened in the first place, and what was accomplished by what I did. I'm concerned there still may be a problem, and would like to know as much as possible.

It was not turned up very loud, and did not seem to be too hot, just normal usage.

    Thanks for any feedback,
