Having used the Arcam since end Nov, all I can say is that it was well worth the investment. I got the new AV100 amp at the same time and they just get better with every CD /DVD that goes through them. If I had one niggle with the DVD it's a little slow at reading CD's when they are first loaded.
I chose Arcam for UK backup, expandability, and no frills - just pure quality

given arcam's hifi pedigree, the audio side of things should be superior to the pioneer
i'd definately go with the arcam, although the pioneer may have more bells and whistles

Ive had the Arcam for a few months and would echo all the above comments. Certainly a good choice if you are using it as a DVD and CD player.
