Pioneer SE-NC31C - interference

I received a pair of Pioneer SE-NC31C headphones for my birthday. I am overall very happy with the sound quality and the noise cancellation is very good.

I use them with my mobile phone whilst commuting on the train. Unfortunately, they pick up a lot of interference from mobile signals. I want to understand whether this is a defect in the headphones or just something I have to live with.

A few points:
* I only ever hear the interference in the left ear piece.
* It does not seem to be caused by my own phone as it only occurs when I am using it on the train.
* The interference occurs with and without noise cancelling.
* I never experienced interference with my normal headphones that I used on the same device under the same circumstances.

So is this a defect in the device or is it a defect in my pair?

Thanks
