Hi there
I'm having a problem with my LX55 Amp. I keep getting a HDCP ERROR message come up when i try to connect to my projector and have no image.
Also my PS3 and Blu-Ray player wont connect to my Plasma, i get a brief picture which is in the wrong colour on the screen before it goes blank again. Sound is working though and Sky HD is working fine on the Plasma only.

All was working well before yesterday, all i did was add a speaker to go from 6.1 to 7.1 sound, plug my projector back in as it's been away for an update and that's it.

Any ideas what it could be? I've not had time to check all the connections yet but will do tomorrow.

Hello,

Just got the LX85 to replace a blown Onkyo DS898 and am very pleased with it. It's set up with 5.1 speakers, bi-amping the front 3. The Synology NAS streams media directly over the ethernet to the receiver. The receiver works fine for everything I throw at it except 5.1 FLAC files.

Example of such recording can be found here:
High Resolution Music DOWNLOAD services .:. FLAC in free TEST BENCH

24/96 stereo FLACs streams fine directly over the network.

Not sure if it was ever designed to play multichannel FLACs but asking here if anyone has had success? The amp returns some kind of file error when played.

Looking for S/W, thinking of Polk Audio DSW PRO 550wi - any thoughts?

You could try one of these on the hdmi output from the AVR which would allow you to connect everything to the amp and output component to the TV

Or a new tv beckons :laugh::laugh::laugh:

That converter could be the way forward, only I would like one that can handle 1080p - will have a look around the net.

Yes, a new PannyVT50 will be on the way just as soon as the AV forums guys have given it their seal of approval.

How does the 85 play flacs? Do I stream to it or play off the hard drive?

A nice juicy answer to the question - pretend we don't know much - would be great as I also have just purchased this amp and was looking to do the same thing. I have managed to get AirPlay working - flawlessly and great.

But was looking to play some flacs and wasn't sure how as iTunes doesn't play them. Can I stream them via another music library like Foobar? Or do I need to use USB connection in to the amp.

Also would love to know the answer to this.... I have an airport express plugged in to a wall socket near the amp - this was being used to 1 - improve wireless range in a dead spot in the house 2 - was giving me AirPlay functionality in my old amp via a optical lead from the express in the the back of the amp.

Now I have an lx85 with built in AirPlay what is the best way of hooking up?

I have plugged in the wireless adaptor that comes with the amp and running AirPlay nicely - this is not a N series wifi device so all music will be streamed over a 2.4ghz network as opposed to my N series 5ghz the airport extreme/express pumps out.

Am I better off making the supplied pioneer wireless box redundant (in turn loosing a chunk of cabling around the back) and just continuing to run an optical from the express in the plug socket in to the back of the lx85 ( will I lose any track/artist display on the facia of the amp?)

I would also like to get my bluray lx55 on the network to and be able to control it via the awesome I control app but the supplied wireless adaptor only has 1 Ethernet cable and that goes in to the lx85?

Thanks for any help in this area guys.....

Hi

I am taken the plunge today and going to purchase the SCLX 85 but I have a question to ask.

My front main speakers are KEF Q900 and the centre is KEF Q600c what speakers would accompany the KEF's for front height and front wide duties? its paramount that the speakers will have to be small and white if possible.

Chewbacca - are you thinking of in-wall or ceiling speakers? They're surprisingly good and are usually white in finish. Monitor Audio have a broad range of them available on their products page.

Biff - how do you get AirPlay to work? Should iTunes automatically detect or must I do something on the amp (is already connected via wireless adapter to the network)

Anyone - what's the name of the iPhone app to remotely control the amp? I have an app called "Pioneer AV". It finds the amp but gives me an error saying it's not controllable

When playing content from your iTunes library you will see a new icon appear (the airplay logo - a rectangle with a triangle in) in the bottom right hand corner, simply click this and up will pop your SCLX85 a select this and you should be hearing sounds via your Pioneer in a matter of seconds.

The iPad/iPhone app is called iContolAV2

How high do the front height and front wide speakers need to be in the room? I have been looking at theses speakers Monitor Audio Radius 45 HD Satellite Speaker Pair - Satellite Speakers - Audiovisual Online - Home Cinema and Hifi Specialists would they be up to the job FH and FW duties?

just a heads up, you can only have FH or FW not both, I have FH approx 1m above the fronts

Thanks Maxwell4321 I didi not realise that, what speakers are you using for the FH's? I am running KEF Q900 at the front I am not sure what to go for I have looked at monitor audio and even some second hand KEF eggs on e-bay.

Im using a pair of Q Acoustics 1020i's that I had leftover from when I upgraded my rears to MA BX2's. To be honest there is not a lot of difference between actually using FH speakers and using the Virtual Height setting, I only did it because I had spare speakers and of course the best reason - Because I can :D

Just about every ad out there for the SCLX85 says that it supports Apple Lossless format. Has anyone got this to work? My files are all M4a format in Itunes which is backed up to a NAS. When I try to play them via HMG I get 'File Format Error'.My Sonos system has no problem with these files so its not the files themselves.

The HMG software is very basic - I suspect that the advertising means it will play them via the integral iPod dock or Airplay.

Thinking that Apple TV may solve this? Don't want to have to maintain 2 copies of my music :confused:

Hi folks,

I understand from this thread the HDMI passthrough feature will not work for the Sky+ HD 1TB box I have. So if I want casual TV viewing bypassing the amp, it seems I have three options...

Current equipment:
Sky+ HD 1TB
Popcorn Hour C-200
Pioneer PDP-LX608D
Riley WHS 2011 Server
* Pioneer SC-LX75/SC-LX85 (undecided yet on which)

Option 1: No splitter/switch
Sky -> TV HDMI #4
Receiver -> TV HDMI #3

+ Simplest/cheapest.
+ Guaranteed to have no quality degradation.
+ Could setup different picture settings on TV for HDMI 3 (Receiver/PCH) vs HDMI 4 (Sky)
- When using the receiver to switch between inputs, if I want to toggle to/from Sky I will need to switch TV inputs as well.
- No ability to use any image processing from the Receiver (do people use that feature for Sky input?)
- Requires two TV HDMI inputs (not an issue for this TV)

Option 2: Splitter only
Sky -> Splitter In
Splitter Out #1 -> Receiver
Splitter Out #2 -> TV HDMI #4
Receiver -> TV HDMI #3

+ Can switch input sources on the receiver without changing TV inputs
+ Can use image processing on the Receiver if wanted for Sky source
+ Could setup different picture settings on TV for watching Sky direct vs watching via receiver.
- When watching via receiver will be on shared picture settings on that TV input for PCH & Sky
- Requires two TV HDMI inputs
- Possibly some picture degradation

Option 3: Splitter and switch
Sky -> Splitter In
Splitter Out #1 -> Receiver
Splitter Out #2 -> Switch In #1
Receiver -> Switch In #2
Switch Out -> TV HDMI #3

+ Requires only one TV HDMI input
+ Can switch input sources on the receiver without changing TV inputs
+ Can use image processing on the Receiver if wanted for Sky source
- Most complex/expensive
- Relies on "perfect" switch auto-sensing, or manual switching
- All input sources have only a single shared TV picture setting
- Biggest potential for quality degradation

Have I summarised correctly, and is there any conclusion you would take? I think option #3 is least likely since I don't have the single HDMI restriction. I'm swaying towards keeping it simple with option #1, but really comes down to whether there are any serious benefits to routing the Sky HDMI through the Pioneer SC-LX75/85?

Many thanks as always for your thoughts.

So you basically want to leave the amp on but watch Sky via the TV without routing audio through amp? If that's the case I should think a HDMI switch with two HDMI outputs would suffice and you alternate accordingly. But, as you said, it requires your TV to have two HDMI inputs (unless the the switch offers a component output supported by optical for audio). You could then control it all via a lovely Harmony remote rather than having to using different remotes the whole time.

Almost - I want to be able to leave the amp *off* and still watch Sky through the TV. For when I am working on my computer and just want it on in the background but no point in expending all that extra sound/power. Basically what I have today since I have no receiver.

And yes indeed, control through a single remote is the other side of this, and why I am less bothered about having to switch inputs. I have a Philips Pronto TSU9600 which I had barely taken out of the box years ago (was awaiting buying a receiver/speakers) and looking forward to a fun project programming that, along with various other integrations I have in mind (WHS 2011, Global Cache GC-100, DuskyControl USB Sky controller, etc). Will keep me out of trouble for a while. And that is why I am undecided on the SC-LX75 or 85 - if most of the expense is the RF remote which I won't use then may as well take the lower model.

Hi all,
I´m a new member, and new to everything in the AVR world, after being left with B&O for 15 years, so pls. bear with me.

I have a brand new setup, with the SC-LX75 and a Philips 55" PFL7606 screen, and I´m having difficulties with the "lip sync", especially when I watch HDTV directly via the TV. Everything is connected with prima HDMI-cables, i.e. from the STB and DB to the receiver, and from the receiver to the TV´s HDMI-ARC-slot. The TV-signal/antenna is routed to the STB and from there to the TV.

I have tried the lip-sync on/off on the TV, and have tried different settings in the A-delay on the ´75, but nothing seems to work properly. Does anyone have an advice for this beginner - then I would be really gratefull.

Anyway, wow, I´m so delighted with the new setup....a lot of punch and also stereo in top-quality, it´s quite an upgrade and I´m looking forward to be fluent in all the menus and possibilities.

KR & thx in advance from Copenhagen
Steen

I have this amp but was surprised to see that it doesn't display anything to do with 96/192khz when playing hi-res audio. I am playing 24bit 192khz files via HDMI direct from Foobar and all sounds well but being a £2k amp and having this feature I would have thought it would like to shout about it :) even my 12 year old Pioneer VSA E07 displayed 96khz when playing hi res CDs.

Am I missing something?

Got one, it does and it sounds fantastic.

I recently had the same situation. I got myself a splitter only to go from the sky box and then send one feed to the amp and another to the TV (Hdmi 1 +2). This is perfect for me, as there are some occasions where i don't want to run things through the amp.

Another thing i have done though, is to take an optical output FROM the TV back to the amp to go into one of the spare optical inputs.. this is is i want to watch online content or something from the TV and run it back to the amp.

Otherwise, i dont see the need to complicate things with a splitter + switch combo.

I have seen no loss at all in picture degradation. Make sure you get a powered splitter though.

@irvsax - thanks very much for your reply, useful information. I posted the same question in the Sky subforum, and all the answers in there suggested just going direct from the Sky to the TV (option 1).

Out of curiosity, why did you choose to split? Was it related to simplicity of input switching on the receiver, or are you using video processing/upscaling of the Pioneer on the Sky signal? If the latter, are you noticeably seeing an improvement?

It was a number of things for me.

Firstly, just functionality. I have the TV in a studio room, so i often use at night and i want to use things like sleep timer etc, so to have the amp running aswel just makes it a bit more complicated, and sometimes i want it to be very quiet and although the internal speakers are a bit rubbish, they are quite good for that.

The reason i wanted it through the amp though is because for 90% of the time i use the amp with the TV and running the signal through here gives you more option.

For instance, i have programmed the remote to control everything including the sky box, so that means.. only one remote. I like the idea of switching between different input (sky, Xbox, BD player) with just one change of function on the remote and not changing different settings on different remotes.

Lastly.. yes the upscaling. I certainly notice a difference on standard definition picture, but not as much on HD. But i thought seeing as you are paying for the Video functions on the amp as well as the audio it would be a shame not to use it.

Also, with regards to you +/- lists. You note that you could setup different HDMI inputs on the TV to have different picture settings. This is true, but i do this differently. A couple of the modes on the TV i would never use, so i edit these to be slightly different for SKY vs Bluray for instance. Of course this depends on you TV.
