In the picture settings menu on my 757ai, there is a setting called PureCinema. (I believe only applies to Prog Scan Component output)

The options are On, Auto1, Auto2 and Off. The manual refers only to On, Off and Auto (default setting).

A couple of times when playing video-sourced material I have had a ‘combing’ effect displayed which was cured by changing to off. With dvds that the player flags a ‘film-sourced’ the picture is definitely better on one of the ‘On/Auto’ settings.

Does anyone know what it actually does? I’ve sussed-out what looks best, but am curious as to why.

    Nike,

PureCinema is just Pioneer's name for their proprietary deinterlacing technology instead of using Faroudja or Silicon Image technology.

It's for film mode deinterlacing, which produces a better picture when watching film sourced dvd's. You'll want it on for watching films and off for watching video sourced dvd's such as TV shows. Auto may get it wrong some of the time where it attepts to detect whether the picture is video or filmed sourced.

    Thanks for the replies :)
Anyone know the difference between the 2 'Auto' modes then?
