Question Pioneer PRO-1110HD

Novice Member
Unfortunately, my beloved 1110 is starting to fail. I will need to replace it. Here is my problem -
The 1110 uses 2 cables to connect the screen to the outboard media controller. My cables are embedded in the wall. One is a DVI, which carries video only. I was thinking that I can leave that cable intact, and use DVI to HDMI adapters to connect a new TV. My question, (and please excuse my ignorance), is that if I am using an AV receiver, is it ok if that cable only carries video? Does the receiver output the audio to the speakers?
Thanks for your help
