I am currently looking at getting a Pioneer PDP435XDE and decided to keep an eye on the prices since I read about the new models coming out in September/October.
I have been looking specifically on rgb direct's web site and since last weekend the price has come down by approx £5 per day. It started at £2404.88 and is now (01/08/05) down to £2367.79.
    The price includes delivery too.

Just thought it was worth mentioning that's all.

Still effectively cheaper at AV-Sales as RGB's price doesn't include speakers or stand.

Me too - it's the plasma I "really want", but I was struggling to justify the extra cost over something like the Hitachi 7200. It's getting much easier now the difference is smaller.

The only thing that's putting me off ordering one today is the 436, and what cost that might be, though the general consensus is that it will be more than the 435, in which case it's a non-starter.

Good price at AV £2400 all in with del.

Uncle ,LE- Concepts at the Metro Centre £2700 with 3 yr warranty.

436 will be around 3k, i think it will be an improvement.

Already been looking at LE Concepts (in fact I posted that price in another thread :) ), but at AV Sales the extra years warranty is only £129, which makes them £160 cheaper, not including LE's delivery cost.

Would like to buy local, but ~£200 can buy a lot of cables, DVD's, or go towards the new stand I will likely need.

Oh yeah, and as I am struggling to justify £2400, £3000 is definitely a non starter, no matter what an improvement it is :(

I ordered my XDE today from AV Sales £2400 with long air speakers and stand. Not bad as the best price I could get on saturday in Brighton was Sevenoaks Sound & Vision £2600 for the same.

AV sales are also works dealers so you get 2 year warranty and the flights to New York or Boston (her indoors will love that)

    I'm happy!!

£££ I know where your coming from mate :)

LE aren't too keen on price matching, which is a pity , i'd rather keep the business to a local .

I think they look in on here so try them.

Might give them a try - I'd actually prefer the under mounted speakers (space considerations only, as all being equal I would go for the long air ones).

Might be easier to negotiate face to face with LE than over the phone with AV Sales.

Won't be doing anything for a couple of weeks now anyway, as have a business trip coming up - will see who is offering/can offer the best deal when I get back. With a bit of luck prices might have dropped again :)

AV2diefor - have you got a 435? If so, how do you find it?

Hmmm - got me thinking now. Would be using it mainly for Sky and DVD's.

Not too keen on the styling of the Pioneer. Might have to go back to the Hitachi, or maybe save a bit of cash and go for the Samsung and something smaller for the bedroom.

Why do things have to be so complicated

I reckon it will be incentives from Pioneer, they will order as they need and existing stock will be given a credit.

Costco are knocking them out for £2350 inc VAT. Thats for the XDE, speakers and table top stand. Also includes about the best three year warranty in the business.

Does that include delivery and fitting? Mine is coming with the stand but as I want it on the wall, I am getting the wall mount as well.

Which wall mount is best for this screen? I've seen Pioneer brackets for £300+! Is the one on the power buy suitable?
Also, how long is the supplied cable from media box to screen? (I'm burying it in the wall).
    Thanks,
    Dave.

I cannot comment on the wall mount, I am leaving that up to the "professionals"
As for the connecting cables, the standard ones are 3 Metres long, but you can get a 10 Metre version for more money (about £200 I think I have seen it here

Flippin' 'eck! So I'd better measure the distance between the would be location of the screen and media box. This could be a deal breaker, I'm not laying out an extra 200 quid just for a longer cable!

Just checked, I reckon 3m is enough :)
Still can't make my mind up between this and the pv500. I just like the simplicity of the Pioneer (only one cable to the display). Can you use the 'air' speakers as a centre channel if you have an AV amp?
    Thanks,
    Dave.

I would imagine so, as they can be fitted to the bottom of the screen

I decided on the 435XDE on that point of wiring.
My concern was that when on the wall, unless you have a tilt wall mount upside down as it were, you cannot get to the connections easily, plus you either have to have the connections for a laptop/computer dangling from the panny which my 3 year old might find "interesting" as to keep plugging them in would be a pian, plus you would have to have a double connection for the audio plugs because of the difficulty in getting to the connections.

Just called Costco and they have stock at £2350, a very protracted call revealed that it comes with speakers and they're going call me back to say whether or not a bracket is included. I've also seen them online for £2350 with wall bracket, long air speakers and 2 flights to USA. Not sure if the Costco deal includes the flights.
If the Costco deal includes wall bracket, long air (black) speakers and flights, then it's a no-brainer. :)
I'd sell the speakers on Ebay as I want a minimalist look, it effectively reduces the purchase price by about £100.
    Thanks for the tip! :)
    Dave.
