JL has agreed to do the Pioneer PDP-434HDE with tabletop stand and speakers plus 5 year warranty for £3399.99. This is a pricematch with Leading Edge Concepts. The original JL price is £4295. So they are taking nearly a grand off!!!

I'm reading that there are problems with the HDMI on this set but it's beyond my understanding. To quote MAW in a previous reply to me:

"HDMI so far has stuck so rigidly to minimum specification that, notably in the case of Pioneer, you cannot send native res digital signals to the screen."

What does this mean? Is the Pioneer a good deal. So many questions.

And regarding Panasonics. Which one? There are PD this, PA that, PE as well. What about their HD sets. It seems the Pioneer has everything in (scarts, component, HDMI etc) without having to add boards.

    Bloody hell, I'm confused.

...and they've just taken away my Hitachi 42PD5200. Glad to see the back of it really. So, what should I get instead? Pioneer, Panasonic...Amstrad :rotfl:

    Seriously though.....anyone?

...and my local retailer has also done the pricematch, but not with the 5yr warranty. I suppose it would be good to buy locally and they can sort out any probs I have. The 5yr warranty is tempting though. What you reckon?

Buy the Pioneer - you'll love it!

Don't worry about HDMI 'problems' - if your planning on getting more complicated than adding a Pioneer (or other Brand) DVD player with HDMI out and simply hooking them together then don't get a PlasmaTV model in the first place go with the no frills MXE1 Plasma Display model.

    Best regards

    Joe

It works like this...JL will ONLY pricematch a retailer who has a store. It can be an internet retailer but they MUST have a store.

In my case, I called JL and told them about the price at leconcepts. Go here for the leconcepts page:

    http://www.leconcepts.com/plasma/Pioneer/piplasma4.htm#434hde

I had to give JL the address of the leconcepts store and the store telephone number. All of this info is on the leconcepts website.

JL phoned leconcepts under the guise of a potential customer to confirm the price and that the set could be seen at the store.

They then called me back to say they will match the price. I have to wait for them to send me a letter confirming this. It was all very simple.

So all I have to do now is justify an extra £1000 to buy the Pioneer over the Hitachi.

My local Hi-Fi store has also agreed a pricematch on the Pioneer but with just the one year guarantee. I am tempted to buy from them as they know their stuff but the lure of a five year JL warranty is hard to turn down.

    Ah...such a dilemma.

I've got 42PD3000 from JL with buzzing that is starting to bug me (no pun intended!!)

    Cheers

Cag...read my 'lip sync problem with Hitachi' thread on this board for all the sad, sordid and explicit details.

Let me know what happens with yours.
