I want to buy a Freeview Digi Box but I need advice on what hardware is best, either the Sony VTX-D800 or the Pioneer DBR-TF100GB ?.

I have a sony. No complaints with it.

You also get regular updates broadcast as well. Which keeps adding more functionality to it.

Both have s-video output from the recorder-out, but the Sony only gives it if connected to a SmartLink recorder. So if you connect it to a recorder without SmartLink you are limited to composite. On the Pioneer you select explicitly what you want.
