I’m in need of help to connect to Tidal using my Pioneer N70AE. Can anyone advise me please?
A secondary issue is I haven’t been able to connect the Pioneer Remote app either. But the internet connection by Ethernet is working fine...TuneIn Radioworks for example. Updating software worked fine too.
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me.

Factory reset, reboot your router and your phone/tablet then try the setup again.

I have two more avenues b4 this
    1. Raised a ticket with Pioneer
    2. Send to authorized service center for update

    Thanks for trying

The N-70AE may be able to be used with a TIDAL supporting industry standard UPnP/DLNA controller, such as the mConnect Player app (iOS & Android, free Lite version available) or the BubbleUPnP Android app.

It may be a typo, but just in case it's not - isn't the newer Pioneer N-70AE supposed to be used with the Pioneer Remote app, not the Pioneer ControlApp (as used by the older Pioneer streamers such as N-70A, N-50A, N-50, N-30, etc)?

    Hi there thanks for asking.
Yes it was a typo and I've corrected that.
Regarding your other musings on the UPNP etc, actually the software is the older version and simply needs to be updated.
I've downloaded the new s/ware but cannot update it myself.
I am seeking some magic dust to unlock it before I send it to a service centre for them to update it for me.

Thanks again and keep the ideas flowing.

Fyi, I ran Tidal via coaxial from my PerfectWave Dac to this unit. It was ok but not the point...lol I am actually trying to compare the two units N70AE and PerfectWave Dac's for Tidal transmission...dum dee dum dum.

And I tried using the mConnect app but it didn't find the N70AE...but there can be a few reasons same network etc maybe another reason this didn't work.

Again, I can see this being a bit pedantic of me, but given that the two apps have very similar names and the fact that you actually mentioned also having a PerfectWave DAC (presumably with the PW Network Audio Bridge II card installed) which is used with the mConnect Control app - are you certain you tried the Pioneer N-70AE with the mConnect Player app (Lite version is free)?

The mConnect Control app can only be used with streamers containing conversdigital's mConnect hardware (such as the PerfectWave Bridge II slide in card), so won't work with the Pioneer N-70AE. See the mConnnect app version comparison table on the conversdigital website:
    Conversdigital
    [IMG]

Possibly, though what isn't clear (as it's not mentioned in its spec) is if the N-70AE can be used as a standard UPnP/DLNA streamer like the older Pioneer network audio players can.

However, I didn't say it before (to avoid confusion), but both the BubbleUPnP app & the mConnect Player app can also control Chromecast (aka Google Cast) supporting streamers. So either app should still be able to see the N-70AE via Chromecast, given that the N-70AE's spec does actually mention that it has Chromecast built-in.

    Hey Cebolla
    Thanks for your persistence!
I will try the other app as soon as I can.

But my key issue is that it is certified TIDAL MQA and just needs an update. But is sternly refusing to allow me to do this.

Ok - I look forward to seeing how you get on with the mconnect Player Lite app.

BTW, I'm a bit confused with regards the 'update' for the N-70AE. You mention 'software' (I'm assuming you actually mean firmware - a subtle difference admittedly) updating (via the netwok) worked fine in your first post, so indicating the device is able to access the internet. Yet you still mention the Pioneer still requires an update using some 'new s/ware' you 'downloaded' in another post.

Why do you think you need this 'downloaded' update, given that you've already updated the N-70AE's firmware with the latest version over the internet?
Where exactly (a web browser link would be most helpful) did you get this downloaded update from?
What is the N-70AE's current firmware version - displayed in Setup > System Info?

Ah, as I suspected you have got the latest version of the firmware (2130-2000-0000-0010), which includes the TIDAL Masters support, already installed on the N-70AE!

Also, the N-70AE's latest firmware download is actually missing from the Pioneer EU webpage:

    upload_2019-3-17_16-53-10.png

You've probably downloaded the devices's USB audio driver software for the MAC or Windows instead, as both of those downloads are on that page (misleadingly under the firmware heading).

If you do need the latest version of the firmware to download and install via USB memory stick, it's actually available from the Pioneer international webpages:
    N-70AE,N-50AE | Firmware Update | Support | Pioneer

Hang on a minute - I've just noticed in that pic of yours, you are able to connect to the N-70AE using the Pioneer Remote app (Android on STC device), after all!
I thought your first post meant you couldn't, so I assumed you were only able to use the N-70AE with its IR remote control and onboard screen.

By 'list of apps' - do you mean in this section of the Pioneer Remote app (image copied from the app's Google Play page)?

If so, no idea why the TIDAL access icon is missing on the Pioneer Remote app. Have you tried resetting the Pioneer Remote app's data or failing that uninstall & reinstall it on the STC?

    A couple of corrections
    I’m using an iPad
    I’m located in Saudi Arabia
SAUDI Telecom is the Network operator
Actually I’m connected by WiFi and that service comes from the competitors fiber connection Mobily

How to reset the app’s data?

As I mentioned upfront I can connect to Tidal on all my other equipment Oppo Media app and mControl apps.

Excellent. How is the N-70AE listed on mConnect Player Lite - as a UPnP/DLNA device, or as a Google Cast device or both?

BTW, thanks for pointing out that you are using an iPad. Not that familiar with iOS, I'm afraid. I know you can reset an app's data on Android. So probably the easiest thing to do on the iPad is a complete uninstall & reinstall of the app.

However, before you do that it'll be worth double checcking if there's somewhere else on the Pioneer Remote app (a settings page?) where you actually enable TIDAL with your accounts login details, so that when the app actually connects to TIDAL using your account settings, the TIDAL access icon appears.

I’m comparing this to my upgraded PerfectWave DAC. I like the clarity channel separation and creaminess of this Pioneer. But the PW DAC has much greater weight. But the Pioneer is also upgraded in the same way but is not yet burned in. Think I’ll put it on loop for the next three weeks, and determine if I’m going to keep it.

Ok adjusted sub up to bring up bottom end...still need some more weight. Let’s see what burn in brings...

I intend to find the best source to feed Tidal into an Esoteric K03Xs via GOrb MasterClocker

    @Corbella
    This shows the casting options.
All of the above listening was done via UPNP.
Now I’ve switched to a Chromecast it’s much better sound. The mids are much more fuller and the bass much more solid. Much improved...
Now I have to listen to the tracks above again...lol.

Interesting that streaming of the same TIDAL tracks sounds better via Chromecast than via UPnP.

Is the N-70AE's display indicating that the device is playing the same audio file type, bit depth & sample rate and does it also match what is being displayed by the mConnect Player app, especially the MQA tracks?

Have you set the N-70AE's digital filters or any other DSP? If so, could they be configured differently when the device is streaming via UPnP and Chromecast?

Filters are set as HiRes only
Filters don’t change between streaming types
The display res bit depth and type of file don’t change.

Now I am swapping between both and now...the differences are questionable. This is a non MQA track.

Let me try an MQA track.

Ok I counter my earlier assertion they are different at all. They are indistinguishable. Nada. No difference. Sitting here next to the speaker...

Ok - that's more like it.

Streaming by either method should sound the same, given that the audio file tracks are yet to be decoded by the receiving N-70AE, where it's assumed they are handled by the same audio playback engine with the same settings. May be you just needed a bit of listening time to get used to its sound.

Shame Pioneer couldn't get the N-70AE to display the audio file type & resolution in Chromecast streaming mode as it does in UPnP streaming mode.

Any chance you could post pics of the N-70AE's display with it UPnP streaming the same Sting ('Waiting For the Break of Day') & Fleetwood Mac ('The Chain') MQA tracks in the mconnect Player pics above? Thanks.

Lovely looking horn, BTW - Viking Acoustics Berlin R Mk II?
