    Ello

Can anyone summarise the difference between the Pioneer PDP-505XDE (lastest 50" model on the Pioneer site) and the PDP-504HDE (listed in the reviews section above)?

Am I right in assuming that the XDE is just a newer model, or is there more to it?

    Cheers

7 Billion as opposed to 1 Billion colours (wow).
    Built in Freeview box.
    Optical Digital IN.
Can use HDMI & Component at the same time, on the 4 you choose one or tother.
Plastic screen rather than Glass screen, saving weight.

Can't think of anything else. The 5 series replaces the 4 series.

    Thanks for that.

I've noticed that Pioneer also have an FDE model (only a 43" variant at the moment though) - is that the same panel as the 43" XDE but without the freeview box?

    Cheers

FDE loses the freeview and a lot of other features:

    1) Beautiful Brushed aluminium remote replaced with cheap plastic job.
    2) PC input on front of Media Receiver dropped.
    3) Media Receiver now 100% black rather than sexy black/silver mix.
    4) Picture in picture dropped.
    5) PCMCIA card holder removed.

It is quite a bit cheaper than the XDE though. You pays your money I suppose!

So much easier with the 434/504 range!!

    I'd recommend it to anyone.

    Hi Voodooflux

I saw your question was the difference between 504HDE and 505XDE, but the heading was MDE or HDE. Assume you mean the former.

Glad you are asking - it was my question too. From what I can tell on the Pioneer website another difference in specifications seems to be that the XDE specs mention a digital tuner (but the 504HDE does not).

I am not too technically minded and have been doing my homework on what to go for - I too am tempted to get the 505XDE.

Interested to know if anyone thinks there is a better 50inch than the 505 XDE out there at the moment (and reasons why).

    Hi Andrew

Yep, you're totally correct, I meant XDE rather than MDE - apologies for the confusion.

Definitely like the look of the XDE - heard some good comments about it, and from what I've seen of the 43" variant the picture is excellent, with no trace of jerkiness (is that a word?) when panning across scenes.

    Cheers
    v.f.
