Very connectable

Pioneer has launched a range of compact new speaker docks with a range of connectivity options at the Gadget Show Live which is taking place in Birmingham this week. The X-SMC00 is the follow-up micro docking solution to 2012’s X-SMC range, and is being showcased for the first time in the UK.

After the success of the X-SMC models last year, the range is back with the updated X-SMC00, which is smaller, sleeker and has changeable front panels. The range is made up of an FM Radio (X-SMC00), DAB radio (X-SMC00DAB) or Bluetooth option (X-SMC00BT), all of which have iPhone 5 & iPad Mini compatibility and a CD player. The Bluetooth option allows the user to stream music wirelessly to the unit from a phone or tablet, while the DAB option gives access to the usual range of radio stations.

A benefit of the new models is that a user can connect, play and charge virtually any Apple iOS device, be it 'lightning' or 'legacy'. All models are fully certified to control, playback and charge iPhone 5 / new iPod / iPad Mini devices via the front USB port, a stand is included to support this purpose. They also feature a retractable 30-pin dock, so regardless which Apple model is used the X-SMC00 units will be able to play it.

Geoff Loveday, product executive at Pioneer, said: “After the success of the 2012 X-SMC range, we wanted to bring back a new and improved model. Smaller, with a range of colours and the option for wireless music with the Bluetooth model, the X-SMC00 is the ideal dock for anybody looking to expand their home listening experience.

“With an increasing demand for DAB radio in the home and with the government’s digital switch-over on the horizon, the DAB option provides a solution to those who are not necessarily going to stream their music wirelessly.”

All units have a CD player built in and use a new space-saving loading mechanism which allows for an extremely slim overall profile. If pushed for space in the home, the user can now wall mount their X-SMC00 system. There is also a digital clock on its face that provides timer and clock functions.

The changeable panels come in silver (default), black and pearl white to suit style preference and room decor.
