Time for a new TV. In your opinion what would give me the best all around experience. A older Pioneer Kuro 5010fd with low hours ($160.00) or a mid-range lcd or low end 4k for around $500? Are the old Kuros still a decent TV? Thanks!

Yes they are... tbh I still got a voltage tweaked 9g kuro in the front family room from new 10yrs old and it does everything very well.. I also have a Panasonic ez952 oled too in my den previously had other kuros krp500 /600.. in 1080p bluray the Panasonic oled betters it but ...not by much.. it's in 4k it's in a different league but for a 10yr old tv it still performs whether it be general tv , bluray films, any sports, boxing /ufc they are brilliant not to mention the motion would be better than an led.. I'd say a NEW model high end led would better a pioneer but your looking at couple thousand £s/$... and 2018 tv vs 2009.. so they are great and for the price of a 2nd hand set too..

Pros... picture quality.. motion..build quality.. viewing angles..black levels.. still smash tv's these days apart from oled.. 1080p bluray still up with the best

Cons.. power hungry.. can heat up a room.. no 4k or smart if that's important to you..

Finally depends on the hrs as it's quite old there's reliability issues but I've had 2nd hand for my den and been fine..
If I were in your shoes for the budget.. I'd be kuro all the way a mid range lcd or low tier 4k led wouldn't stand a chance against a kuro or last generations Panasonic plasma..
