    Hi all,

Has anyone had any experiences with any Pioneer home cinema speakers? Particularly the S-VLF3/5's?

    Pioneer S-VLF3

    Pioneer S-VLF5

I have limited budget and space, and these have caught my eye... : )

    All views welcome.

Also (I'm going to sound quite dumb now I'm sure  ), what's the difference between an amplifier and a receiver?

    Cheers,

    sirmoonmin

If you're talking purely home cinema then:

Amplifier - Decodes audio signal (all that DTS, DPIIx stuff), amplifies it and sends to speakers
Receiver (often called Integrated Amplifier) - Does same as an amplifier but also has a built in radio/tuner
Power amp - Doesn't decode anything, it just amplifies input signals
Pre-amp (or processor) - Decodes audio signal into separate channels but doesn't amplify (sends to power amp or active speakers)

    Clear as mud?

I think they are quite expenisve for what they are, i might be mistaken, but wouldn't something like the m30/i package be better for the money. They are nice little conventional looking speakers.

What would you say your buget is at?

Hi.I have now owned my svlf 5 for over a year now cannot fault them for sound quality(i had listened to many before),they are however quite large and heavy for home cinema speakers, the subwoofer appears to be veneered chipboard (cheap looking),the satillite speakers are real wood though, i am however very pleased with them and they also look very smart, hope this helps :smashin: .

Cool. Thanx Paul... I was beginning to think that no-one anywhere owned a set... :)

Ideally, I don't want to spend more than £400... I spotted these Pioneer's when I was looking into the DVD and AMP that I will soon purchase... I admittedly don't know of any other speakers in that price range that might make good alternatives...

    All suggestions welcome...
