Is it possible to replace the DVD drives inside older Pioneer HDD/DVD recorders e.g. 720H, 920H, 930H?

Do you need to source the same, long-since discontinued, drives, or can alternatives be used?

Is it a simple case of removing the faulty drive, and 'dropping in' the replacement, or is a service remote required?

From research I have done, they often need a redundant pioneer service DVD and a service remote. Even then it is not g'teed to work as there is a mismatch with CPRM information :0(

    Thanks, ADAMFOULKES.

    Doesn't sound too hopeful :(

I'll contact Pioneer to see what they say.
