I saw a thread on AVSForum. I cannot believe this to be true. They manufacture the best TVs on the market and this happens :thumbsdow

If you're planning to buy a Kuro you should do it NOW.

Sad , but not surprising , last years financial results were absolutely abysmal with some truly staggering losses , and its a question now of simply staying afloat.

So, do I buy? Implications re: parts, should the TV go wrong.

I know that I at least get 5 years warranty...but, long term???

I am pushing the wife hard (no pun intended) on this purchase...

its safe to buy, they will continue to deliver parts and guaranty for many years, as they have to after the law.
i would absolutelly buy, if was looking for a new telly, its the best, and will continue to be that for at least 1-2 years.
i only hope that panasonic buys the patents, and will give us brilliant tellys in 2-3 years time.

Panasonic also posted higher than expected losses. (15,000 jobs to go) So would they have the money?

Only good news for them is they will dominate the plasma market once pioneer gone.

As sad as the screen news is, what about the DVD player news...which I can only assume includes Blu-ray too?

Pioneer have been my choice of optical disc player every single time since i bought my first Laserdisc player, a CLD-1750 all those years ago.

    Gutted. :(

EDIT - And what does this mean for firmware updates for the current range?!

Very true, it did say moving production but could that also mean quality??

All three dvd players ive owned have been pio's, started with the 500 then 505 and recently the lx 50 witch is simply amazing compared to the latter ones.

Lets hope it dont also start to affect there amps.

Expected news, but a real shame (less choice at the quality end). Just hope that Panasonic will come up to the mark in future, but I'm so glad I've got my Pioneer 9G. Just hope that it doesn't go wrong.

Well, it depends if they move some of the engineers that work on the firmware. I am sure firmware updates will still come, but they could be slowed in release.

If this is true - not about to phone my contacts on a Friday night - then it just confirms what many of us have feared and hoped wouldn't happen.

It certainly puts a real downer on the quality end of things if it is the case. We will try and get some comment from Pioneer GB.

posted in another thread - but any ideas to how this could affect extended warranties ? I mean if it was 2 yrs say surely parts would not be an issue - but have they enough parts to keep repairing faulty Kuros for 5 years ?

reason I'm asking is I was considering getting a Kuro with a bonus soon to be coming

    thanks, Mark.

perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel

I mean this does open up a new market for Panasonic

just depends whether the volume would be worth their while

perhaps we'll see some premium 42 inchers in the future

Without wishing to sound insensitive (given that this looks pretty grim), what do peeps think will happen regarding prices of the Pioneer plasma models out today (assuming their the last generation).

Just sold off at normal prices untill stocks have been exhausted?

:thumbsdowThis is not good news at all.

As you can tell by my sig I am very fond of Pioneer AV kit and was planning to upgrade to a 60" later in the year.

A sad day for all AV fans I think.:(
