    I'm pretty new to this technology, however I am thinking of purchasing a Pioneer DVR5100 DVD Hard Disk Recorder, would be grateful of any feedback from members who have this unit and what are the pros and cons with it.

    Regards

    I think this dvd-recorder is a Pioneer DVR-520H

    If this is correct I can tell you my experience:
    -good quality (also in SP mode-> 2 hours on a DVD)
    -many different recording mode (not only the usually 4 recording mode, but 32 different recording mode)
    -easy software to edit video
    -great play while recording mode
    -high speed copy (hdd->dvd)
    -high speed duplication (using backup) (dvd-r -> hdd ->dvd-r)
    -DV in/out

    P.S.
    I have some problem with high speed copy with verbatim dvd-r 8x
    I don't understand why the write-speed can't be limit to 4x ...

    Somethins to consider:
    - DVR 5100 is the old model. DVR 520 is the new one;
    - Major diferences: DVD 520 writes to 8x DVD-R and 4x DVD-RW, DVR 520 has a SCART/RGB input;

    I have a pioneer DVR 5100. Very happy with it. Nice features. Very flexible and easy to use. Good picture quality.

    I have both a 5100 and a 520 and I think that they are great machines...editing is really easy with a good GUI...quality of recordings are excellent if the source is of good quality...recordings made from DV camera to the hard drive and then to DVD-R are also excellent
