None of the current crop of dvd hdd recorders have a high enough bit rate to record hi-def tv, and Blu-Ray players won't be released in the Uk until 2006 at the earliest. Not sure about future HDD devices. Still, at the moment Digital VHS seems to be the only answer.

With Sky's hi-def service not starting until 2006/7 I didn't think there was currently much high-def material worth recording off air!? I bought a Pan 85 earlier this year but will be looking to upgrade to Blu-Ray sometime in the future. Exactly when will probably depend on how cheap the players are, blank media/pre-recordeded and what titles are available.

The Pioneer 920 has been delayed a month or so - I'm not sure why.

It can't record High Def output I'm afraid. If your Digibox can downscale to standard resolution it will, of course, record that. For your information Pace are on the verge of releasing a HDD High Def recorder - that is your best bet even if you won't be able to archive to High Def disk.

What's the point when the only HD we've got in Europe is Euro1080 (AFAIK)?

No idea I'm afraid - could be a whole host of things. It could just have been delayed for marketing reasons.

Yes OARDVD, the market for HD recording is somewhat limited at present. The Pace recorder does allow standard definition recording as well so has a 'mass market' appeal as a large capacity HDD recorder. I suppose Pace's reasoning though is that if HD content is out there someone might want to record it...
