    Hi

I have a NTL digital cable box linked to my Pioneer via scart(RGB).

When any recording commences, but still wanting to view cable I have to hop off the settee to turn on the scart through button on the Pioneer. While this is not a hard thing to do, it always starts the missus moaning about her losing the picture/sound for a few secondsto operate.

Is there a way of doing this via remote control?

I have searched the operating and cannot find anything.

    Thanks

When you use the 'through' function and record analogue, that's just the way it is unfortunately. I agree it's a pity there is't a button on the remote. There should be one for Auto-Start too.
If your NTL box has 2 scarts and the TV has a spare scart can you not use this arrangement:
NTL TV-out > TV AV a --- watch TV here
    NTL VCR-out > 420 L1
    420 L2 > TV AV b --- watch recordings here

The only snag with this is that if the VCR-out of the NTL is only composite you cannot get RGB (or s-video) recordings.

I've set up my NTL box and 420 as follows:-
NTL TV scart to 420 L1 scart
420 L2 scart to AV1 scart on TV
This allows you to watch DVDs and NTL in RGB .

NTL VCR scart to VCR scart AV2
VCR scart AV! to Tv AV2 scart.
This allows you to watch a Video tape if necessary and allows NTL pass thru assuming of course that the VCR is switched on - composite only viewing in this mode as per eddy.
Use the TV remote to toggle between the Tv inputs.

You could of course remove the VCR from the loop and connect the NTL box to the TV AV2 scart directly
