Or do they have to be chipped?

    Am considering either DV-575, DV-585 or DV-2750-S.

They need a firmware modification that is loaded from a CD. Why not just buy one already modified?

Get yourself down to richersounds and get one of these :- http://ws4.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=PION-DV575-SIL
Brilliant player, brilliant price, bril................... YOU GET THE IDEA !!
Multi region outta-the-box, plays mostly everything (inc DVD-A, and SACD).
I did a 108 mile round trip to collect mine from RS in Stockport as Chester did'nt have any in stock when I wanted one.
Apparently from what I've read and been told the 585 is NOT an improvement on the 575, but not having seen a 585 in action I am not in a position to criticise. Needless to say I am MORE than happy with the 575 as it does all I could wish for for a very reasonable price.
Search the web, read some reviews on the 575 as opposed to the 585, you should notice the 575 comes out as the better player (this months WHAT HI-FI give the DV-585 a three out of five star rating  ).
Get down to your local (or not in my case) Richersounds and buy a bargain (IMHO).

    Good luck,

    Graham.

As posted here before in other threads, no Pioneer model has any built in handset hacks. If you have not bought it already, then theres no reason not to buy it pre-modified from a specialist retailer!

If you don`t then you need to use a PDA or a chipped remote service to mod it (google search, or banner below both give info on this). But if you have not bought it yet, just buy whatever machine you decide on pre-modded....
