Pioneer dvd 575 or Toshiba sd340

Question from a newbie. My apologies if this or similar has been asked before.

I am due to collect a philips 32pf9986 lcd tv on monday and looking to buy a new multi region dvd player for £100 or less at the same time.

Unfortunately the more I read the more confused/undecided I get!

I am limiting it £100 as I am also in the market for HDD recorder (possibly a Panasonic DMR-E95H) but waiting for the price to come down a bit.

Friends have narrowed it down to 2 choices - Pioneer 575 or Tosh 340.
Richer sounds are advertising good prices (£100 & £67 respectively).

The Pioneer seems to have better reviews but I would value some experienced advise

Thanks in advance for your assistance

There was a longish thread here which was still active a week or so ago, you may want to look for one titled something like 'Head-to-Head' in which these and others were discussed.

If I had my choice again I would now go for the pio 575a because the 340e is so fussy and slow with DVD-R media, read all the other 340 threads, they nearly all say the same.

If you only want to watch comerrcial DVD's the 340 is fine, if not go with the 575a.

Use the search function. The head to head thread went off a bit... the Tosh is quite fussy about what media you use.

:hiya: Thanks Guys,

Just spent ages reading through the head2head thread and 575 flicker poll.
I've gone square eyed!
I'll most probably go for the pioneer 575.
Once I have got my telly installed I will visit Richer Sounds to discuss further and see if they will part with both so I can compare which is best for me.

Thanks Again

I have just bought the 575a pio from RS for £100, its great, no problems at all and it is playing dvdr stuff that my last one didnt, had no probs at all so far, well worth the cash

Just thiught I'd let you know I opted for a Panny DMRE 85 in the end!
 Quite different from my original options I know but what the hell....
This way I can make my VCR redundant and get to watch a DVD whilst recording on the HDD. :D

 Cheers all

I returned my 575 to RS,even if it was only £100 bad picture jaggies unstable through my 36 ins tv, guy at RS said i was not the first to return a 575 because of probs like this .seems they work better if you run through a plasma, have a LImit 900se to replace the 575 and that is better picture is not unstable, picture is much better now.The limit is much built and sounds better,I think the pioneer 575 overated but of course it will play nearly everything but it has a picture issue imho if you use a ctv i found so and was relieved to say goodbuy to it . :hiya:
